Welcome to Day 3 of
The 12 Days of Holiday Treats!
Once again, this year, from December 1st-12th I’ll post a new holiday treat recipe every day – inspiration for your holiday entertaining!
The recipes I’m sharing are small-er batch – each recipe makes 1-dozen or a few more smaller-sized treats that are simple to prepare and that use everyday ingredients and equipment so hopefully you’ll be able to whip up any of these on a whim. Check out the treats from 2019 – 2024 at the bottom of this post too for more inspiration!
Today’s treat is inspired by a favourite childhood chocolate – Strawberry Freddo Frogs!
Freddos remain one of the chocolates I stock up on when I am back in Australia although the strawberry version can sometimes be elusive. They’re the simplest idea – a chocolate frog with a flavoured cream centre (there were other versions too growing up – peppermint, for example) but the strawberry version was, and still is, my favourite.

While I don’t have a frog mould, I DO have a trusty mini-muffin tin that I have used in various other iterations of “creme cups” over the years – Caramel Cups, Sunbutter and Jam Chocolate Cups, Chocolate Peppermint Creme Cups Chocolate Orange Creme Cups. These are fun to make for gifts or your holiday dessert table! Or, you know, you… 😉
The concept is easy – use mini muffin cup liners, coat the bottom and the sides with chocolate, add some cream filling then top with chocolate. For today’s version I have also added sprinkles/100s and 1000s (from Sweetapolita – scroll down for a link to the BEST SPRINKLES!) but you don’t have to.

Chocolate Strawberry Creme Cups
Chocolate cups filled with strawberry creme
Ingredients
for the chocolate cups:
- 1 cup (200g) milk chocolate chips
for the strawberry creme :
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon strawberry flavouring
- 1/2 cup (70g) icing sugar
for decorating
- 100s and 1000s (best ones in Canada are from Sweetapolita)
Instructions
- Line a mini-muffin tin with paper liners.
- Melt chocolate in a metal or ceramic bowl set over a pot of simmering water (or in a microwave at 50-60% power in bursts of 30 seconds until it's just about melted and then stir to melt the remainder).
- Coat the bottom of the paper liners with the chocolate (easiest to use a piping bag here) and use a spoon to push it slightly up the edges to form a shallow chocolate cup.
- Place the tray in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Combine the butter, corn syrup and strawberry flavouring in a medium bowl using electric hand beaters until smooth.
- Add the icing sugar about 1/3 cup at a time, mixing until just combined. Once all the icing sugar is added, add the food colouring and mix until smooth and creamy.
- Remove the chocolate cups from the fridge. If the remaining chocolate has set too hard, re-melt in the microwave at 50-60% power bursts of 30 seconds until it’s smooth and liquid.
- Place the strawberry creme in a piping bag (fitted with a small, plain piping tip - or not).
- Pipe about 1 teaspoon of the creme mixture into the chocolate cups.
- Use a clean finger dipped in water to flatten the creme slightly. Once you have filled all the chocolate cups, place the tray in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, place the remaining chocolate in a piping bag or use a small spoon to coat the top of the orange creme. Make sure the chocolate runs down the sides of the creme patty to “close” the chocolate casing.
- Sprinkle the 100s and 1000s over the top and shake slightly to the tops are completely covered.
- Place the tray in the fridge to set completely.
- Remove from fridge and allow to come to room temperature before serving.

Notes
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator – you will need to bring them to room temperature before serving.

These were SO GOOD I don’t think I shared them with anyone (this is rare with the “12 Days” treats – I am usually packaging them off to neighbours asap to get them out of the house – but these tasted EXACTLY like Strawberry Freddos and I savoured them, enjoying one a day… (this required a LOT of restraint!).
Stay tuned to see what Day 3 holds!

How did you guess strawberry creams were my favourite?! I think I would do mine without the 00s and 000s though!
