I made this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Dorie’s Cookies for Canadian Thanksgiving a couple of weeks ago. Here’s a confession for you – I’m not a fan of pumpkin pie, it’s something to do with the texture (and believe me when I say I’ve tried a lot of different pumpkin pies!). It’s also not something I grew up eating so every Thanksgiving, I’m looking around for something else to serve. This year I served a lemon tart but I had my eye on these spiced pumpkin jammers too! As they are cookies, I figured they would be easy to make ahead of time and also they would free up fridge space!
Basically this is a version of Dorie’s classic jammers – a spice cookie topped with a mixture of pumpkin purée and cream cheese which is then topped with the “anything streusel” crumble mixed with pumpkin seeds. So, yes a three part production – none of the elements is complicated but it does take some time (especially because the dough needs chilling) – but one that worked out well as I pottered around the kitchen preparing all the rest of the food for our meal.
Verdict: All of the flavour of pumpkin pie without the weird texture! Dorie is a genius!

haha- i like your verdict! i thought these had great flavor and were certainly very cute.
I am glad you found a good substitute for a pumpkin pie. Lemon tart sounds good too.
I had the same thought! I don’t like pumpkin pie, though I try every year, but these were yummy (though I made mine with butternut squash)!
