This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe comes from Dorie’s latest book, Dorie’s Anytime Cakes. Breton Buckwheat Butter Cake is kind of exactly what is sounds like – a butter cake made with (a tiny amount of) buckwheat – but is’ more like a cake/ cookie than an actual cake (it’s very flat). It it very simple but VERY delicious!

This was delicious, slightly warmed to bring out the nutty, buttery flavour. The buckwheat is subtle but you can tell that there is *something* other than all-purpose flour. This is like a big, buttery, crumbly cookie cake – it’s not like anything I’ve had before but I can tell you, I’ll be making it again – so simple and so good.

I made this for my dad and we enjoyed it with dollops of thick cream 🙂
I loved this because it’s not too sweet – it’s perfect for dessert but also morning or afternoon snack with a cup of tea or an espresso. Another Dorie winner!
