This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Dorie’s Cookies was our last cocktail cookie from the book and I can’t say I was super excited about it. I mean, I like chocolate. I like olives. But Chocolate-Olive Cookies? Um….
I can’t explain why the intense flavor of cocoa powder goes so well with oil-cured black olives, but it’s nice to know that life can still be mysterious. This is a cookie made for red wine and good times. It’s a surprisingly delicate shortbread, hailing from the melt-in-your-mouth family with butter and a little olive oil, seasoned with salt and pepper and studded with olives. It’s a grown-up cookie — exactly what a cocktail cookie should be.
I have to admit my heart wasn’t in these ones from the start and they were baked when I wasn’t feeling in optimal spirits so they didn’t really stand a chance. I know Dorie says they are great cocktail cookies but as I was adding those olives, I couldn’t help but wonder if I added chocolate chips, would they look the same in the photo and would anyone know? LOL.
In the end I added the olives but yah, not my faves. I love a little sea salt and chocolate but this was a bit much.
Anyway… Onwards. We only have a handful of cookies left to bake in this book!
