Tuesdays with Dorie: Whole Wheat and Flax Daily Bread from Baking with Dorie

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe comes from Baking with Dorie. Whole Wheat and Flax Daily Bread is a similar method and recipe to the Daily White Bread we made in October – except for a few changes. This recipe calls for whole wheat flour, wheatgerm and some flax seeds making it just a little bit more “hearty” than a plain white loaf. It was the perfect thing to bake during a snowstorm that dumped 2 feet of snow on Toronto in a day!

I used ground flax seeds because that’s what I had on hand and realise now that I could have used more (I used 2 tablespoons because it didn’t want the loaf to be too dense) – but next time I would use actual seeds 0r – one of Dorie’s playing around” suggestions – sesame seeds. I’d also sprinkle some on top!

I loved the flavour of this one – it feels a bit healthy 😉 It’s definitely a sturdy loaf as opposed to fluffy but it toasts beautifully. I have sliced the entire loaf and frozen it so I will have some “fresh” bread on hand in the coming weeks, definitely a nice treat 🙂

  1. Wow I hope you have dug your way out of two feet of snow. This bread was healthy and delicious. Flax seeds were good with it too.
