Cook the Book Fridays: Poke to Play Around With from Everyday Dorie

This week’s recipe for Cook the Book Fridays comes from Dorie Greenspan’s cookbook, Everyday Dorie. Poke to Play Around With was not exactly an “I can’t wait to make this” dish for me (no thanks, raw tuna or salmon) but given we have a great fishmonger just at the end of our street where I *can* buy just 100g of whatever, I figured I’d make a poke bowl for Neil and a “playing around” bowl for me!

The marinade is soy sauce, olive oil, sesame oil, ginger, Sriracha, oyster sauce, and rice vinegar – easy to pull together with pantry staples. Dorie offers a huge range of options for the “add-ins” for the bowl – I had tomato, avocado, and cucumber on hand so that’s what Neil got with his tuna on a bed of rice.

I lightly pan-fried some tofu for my bowl, adding the marinade in the pan at the last minute as a sauce (could have used more, it’s really good), for a non-fish version of this which was flavourful and filling.

I’ll keep the marinade in my back pocket for other uses (and for Neil this is an excellent meal to make when I’m not around so I’ll flag this one in the book for him!).
