Tuesdays with Dorie (Baking Chez Moi): Real Hot Chocolate

Dorie Greenspan Real hot chocolate on eatlivetravelwrite.comThe Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi for this week was the perfect antidote to a busy weekend full of teaching and editing (yes, indeed, although I have revealed the cover and my book can be pre-ordered, I’m still working on final edits this week (feels a little surreal, to be honest).

So, when I realised I still had one more recipe to make for Tuesdays with Dorie this month, I panicked a little (when would I find time to make this) but then relaxed when it turned out to be this magnificent “Real Hot Chocolate”. Hot chocolate?Yes but not just any hot chocolate… This one is really special and reminiscent of the ones you are served across France in specialty tea rooms. But ssssh – so easy to make on your own!

Milk, water, sugar and a pinch of salt are combined with melted chocolate (I used semisweet), stirred until combined then blended with an immersion blender. Since I made 1/2 the quantity, it was too hard to use the blender so I just whisked away with my trusty balloon whisk and it did the trick.

Et voilà!

Real hot chocolate from Baking Chez Moi on eatlivetravelwrite.comThe PERFECT break!

(note that even this 1/2 quantity was enough for two serves for me – it’s so very very rich).

Get a version of the recipe for Dorie Greenspan’s Real Hot Chocolate here on p 410 of Baking Chez Moi.

This sounds wonderful especially on this cold winter day.
A friend of mine is drink of choice is Hot Chocolate so when we next get together around the campfire I will be making this for her 🙂
BTW just love the picture of the rabbit mug! Because a special drink needs a special mug!

Yes! This is how we make hot chocolate all winter long (with homemade marshmallows, of course!). It doesn’t take any longer than the powdered stuff, and is so much better. I’ve found that letting it boil for *just* a little bit creates a thicker drink.

The hot chocolate sounds like a perfect break in your very busy schedule. I love the marshmallow on top and the book cover even better. Can’t wait!
