Mmmm… salted caramel spread! It was the last session of the Petits Chefs this week for the school year and I wanted to end the year on a sweet note. The kitchen has been under renovation and so, we’ve had no oven for the past term – it’s been difficult to do anything on the sweet side (baking). We did make jam though, and it got me thinking… A while back, I made this salted caramel spread which I figured, being a bit easier than jam, would be a perfect way to end the year. Plus, cute pots of deliciousness to take home? Bonus!
The recipe only has a few ingredients but it’s important to measure them properly.
Sugar…
We kept a careful eye on our sugar (although there was some weirdness going on with our hotplates for sure…)
I showed the boys how to add the cream and all the groups asked me to do it for them after that… The hot cream bubbles and froths in a fairly alarming manner for a few seconds and you have to keep whisking until it looks like this:
Then we carefully added the butter, piece by piece…
Beautiful pots of delicious caramel.

Thank you for following the Petits Chefs adventures over this past year! I have a lot of exciting plans up my sleeve for the fall (and we’ll have access to an oven again too!) so stay tuned!

Lovely. Love it.
So did the boys!
