This week, the Petits Chefs were lucky to welcome Adell Shneer back to the school for one of our favourite guest chef sessions â decorating Adell’s delicious sugar cookies. This was her ELEVENTH visit to to work with the boys in cooking club – we couldn’t be happier to have her willing to return year after year!
As always, we started out with a brief intro to the colour wheel before the boys started mixing their colours…
It’s always interesting to see what they come up with in terms of colour combinations and this session it was definitely very pastel – unknowingly they all created colours that went together really well!
The boys even managed to pour their icing into the small squeeze bottles themselves (this is not an easy job and typically Adell and I do this but everyone was eager to get decorating and they took this on themselves to save some time!).
This was their inspiration (Adell made these as examples of what we were after this session):
As always, the icing squeeze bottles bring out the best in (most) boys’ concentration…
The boys’ work is always so impressive when Adell comes to work with them. She is very inspiring and encouraging and the boys respond well to this. Well, and the fact that they only have 4 cookies so it’s critical they do a good job! Actually they all got an extra cookie this time around – some chose to decorate and, well, some chose not to… đ
The results speak for themselves:
Not bad for an hour’s work, right? I’m always so amazed (as are the boys and their parents, if the cookies make it home!) at just how professional these look. I’m always impressed with the boys’ creativity and focus. I love seeing their pride in their work. Thanks Adell for always being inspiring and bringing laughter and lightness into the lab!
