Les Petits Chefs (pâtissiers) make salted caramel apple crumble

There are a few things I consider “must-know” dishes and in this term’s baking club at school, I’m trying to share a few of those recipes with my students. Many might not consider a fruit crumble a “must-know” recipe but I do (and I know my dad certainly does) so a couple of weeks ago (I am SO behind in posting these sessions! Hello report card season!), I shared a favourite recent version of apple crumble  – with salted caramel sauce! It’s an extra step (actually a couple) to add the salted caramel sauce but it’s oh so worth it!

We started out by chopping the apples into small cubes…

Meanwhile, we made the caramel sauce (well away from the apple chopping table!)

And because caramel sauce is something you need to truly be present in the making of, that’s it for photos of this stage! 😀

Other students got busy making the crumble topping…

And finally the sauce was ready to drizzle over the apples:

“Looks kinda gross but I bet it tastes amazing” (actual quote).

We made sure to evenly distribute the crumble over the apples and caramel..

Many hands make light work, right?

And about 30 minutes later…
