(Bits & Bites is a semi-regular series featuring products or events I am enthusiastic about!)
Over the summer in France, I had a craving for authentic Mexican food, something which is not that easy to find outside the larger cities, so when I received the invitation to check out a tasting menu at one of my favourite Toronto restaurants, Fonda Lola, I was really excited. Even more so when I realised it was a preview of a special event taking place next week on August 26th and 27th 2015.
For two nights only, the Fonda Lola menu is being turned over to the restaurant owner’s mother, Mama Vickie, who has created and who will cook an authentic eight-course Mexican meal featuring her specialties and favourite dishes for feeding a crowd. Passed down from generation to generation, these recipes aim to give you a true taste of Mexican culture and will take your tastebuds through years of home-cooked tradition. At 65 years old, Vickie’s had *several* years of practice to perfect the art of a pinch, dab and dollop to make each dish perfect in its delivery.

We were treated to four dishes (and some margaritas) to give us an idea of what to expect from Mama Vickie’s menu.

Join the folks at Fonda Lola on August 26th or August 27th 2015 (2 seatings nightly at 6pm and 8pm, 40 covers per seating) for dinner to experience the most authentic Mexican food and experience in Toronto. Mama Vickie will in the kitchen and available to talk about her creations and share some family secrets during the event (she really is a delight and the joy on her face watching people enjoying her food is priceless!). If you love real Mexican food, this event is for you! Eight courses, $40 per person. Tickets available on Eventbrite.
Disclosure: I was a guest at the media preview for Mama Vickie’s menu. I was not asked to write a post about my experience and an not being compensated for doing so. All opinions my own.

It’s a long way to come from down under… but it might just be worth it.
So much ‘Mexican’ food isn’t… this looks great.
