Luck of the draw

Every two weeks, a little surprise arrives on our doorstep.

Our organic box. After quite a bit of research, we decided to go with Front Door Organics. I liked them better than a couple of other companies because it gave you the option of a “custom box” where you can swap items in and out of the regular “fresh box” if you find that your box contains too many items that a) you don’t like or b) you have never heard of. You can also add items (grocery and fruit/ vegetables) at extra cost to your box. At $40 every fortnight, it’s a pretty good deal. Over the past year or so that we have been receiving deliveries, it’s also really taught me how to plan our meals around the produce because, being organic, it does not last as long.

It’s so much fun getting the box because everything actually looks real, like food used to look. Misshapen apples, edamame on the stalks (!), dirty potatoes that look and smell like they have just been plucked from the ground…

This week’s delivery included:

fiddleheads and

wild leeks.

Our thinking caps are on! Will post what we end up doing with these very seasonal ingredients in the next few days…

  1. Mmmm…I know what to do with the leeks: just peeled and cooked a few hundred last weekend at camp!
