It’s beginning to look a lot like…
Yup – when the Beer Bistro has their “Christmas Beer” menu out, it REALLY feels like the holidays!
I was there on Wednesday for a quick bite to eat with good friends (Hi Lynne!) and was SO excited to see the special beer list. I remember drinking “Bière de Noël” in a café on the Place de la Sorbonne the first time I was in Paris (in 1991 *cough cough*), and it’s a tradition that I think more countries should embrace.
To start with, I had this:
I have very fond memories* of a trip to Bruges (Belgium) with my best friend Liz (hi!) in about 1997 where we drank our way through the list of a cute little bar and ate a lot of cheese and – miracle of miracles – didn’t even feel hungover the next day. Those monks know what they are doing, I tell you. I still have an empty bottle of Delerium Tremens lurking about somewhere in the basement – the flying elephants are soooo cute. The other night, the Delerium Noël came in a pretty glass… (that I really wanted also…)
With this highly amusing warning:
Thanks for that.
Cheers!
Since it only came in a tiny bottle (33cl), I followed it up with this:
Another “extra strong beer” which was much darker than I normally would order but it had notes of liquorice which I absolutely LOVED. Even Lynne, my non-beer drinking friend, thought it was delicious.
And what’s a couple of bières without some frites?
These were VERY good fries with a barbecuey sauce and lovely thick eggy mayo. Mmmm! (there was also other real food – mussels and a beautiful curry – but the pics I took would not do it justice). I like the Beer Bistro both for a quick bite to eat or a drink at the bar. Having lived in Belgium, I really appreciate seeing some of my old favourites on the menu and they have a huge selection from all around the globe too. Definitely worth checking out in the summer again when I know how to use my DSLR and the light is better!
* Don’t you love how some of my fondest memories are about beer? 😉

Ooh “extra strong beer”, they need to have one of those labels on La Fin du Monde (which I happen to have chilling in the fridge, oh yes I do). It is 100% beer drinking weather here now, woo!
