Shine for ShelterBox

Did you know that last year around 85 million people around the world were left without shelter from natural disasters and conflict? It’s an appalling statistic but did you also know there is an organisation dedicated to disaster relief working hard to help, all over the world? Have you heard of ShelterBox ?

When people are plunged into crisis, normality is suspended. But good, quality shelter can cut through the chaos.

What is ShelterBox?

ShelterBox is an organisation that provides tools which enable people to rebuild homes and transform their lives after disaster strikes by distributing ShelterBoxes and ShelterKits. The sturdy green ShelterBoxes contain family-sized tents specially designed to withstand the elements and provide people with temporary shelter until they are able to start the process of rebuilding a home. The ShelterKits contain all the essential tools people need to start repairing and rebuilding homes straight away. But that’s not all – because ShelterBox knows that a home is much more than just bricks and mortar (or tarpaulin and tent pegs), the kits and boxes contain items that help transform shelters into a homes, like cooking sets, solar lights and activity sets for children.

Neil has known and worked with ShelterBox through Rotary for years, and we cannot say enough about the positive impact they make in some terrible situations.  They truly make a difference.

How you can help support ShelterBox – Shine for ShelterBox

It’s never been easier to help make a difference – all you have to do is host a Shine for ShelterBox candlelit party from November 1 to December 31st. Host a get together to raise funds and awareness and to shine the light on disaster relief worldwide and help families affected by disaster this winter. It doesn’t have to be a grand undertaking – every little bit makes a big difference and every donation supports ShelterBox’s work around the world, so even if you just invite friends over for a candlelit pizza party in exchange for a donation to ShelterBox, that counts too.

This month, we’re doing our part by hosting a Shine for ShelterBox party, asking friends to make a small donation in order to attend a Cocktails for Charity party where we will celebrate our collective impact together with drinks and nibbles. I’ll also be selling copies of my book In the French kitchen with kids with all proceeds going to ShelterBox.
