Four years ago today, I hit “publish” on my very first blog post.

Who knew what a huge part of my life eat. live. travel. write. would become? Certainly I was not expecting to still be blogging up a storm four years later!

I didn’t want to write one of those retrospective blog birthday posts (you know, most commented post, most views etc…) and I’m crazy busy right now recovering from FBC2013 and gearing up for Food Revolution Day  so instead, I’ll keep this one short and sweet.  This far down the track, though, it’s time to spend my summer taking a long hard look at this blog, really moving towards focussing and improving my writing and photos over the year to come. My long term gift to you, dear readers…

For now, to mark the occasion, I have a little something for my Canadian readers… It’s pretty…

And, fitting since my very first post was called “A few of my favourite things” it just happens to be one of my most favourite things in the kitchen…

  1. I would make a key line pie for my Dad as Father’s Day is just around the corner. Congratulations on your 4th Anniversary. Lovely Meeting you at #FBC2013

  2. I’d make so many things – right now I usually just sigh wistfully when I see that a recipe includes instructions to use a stand mixer. Would probably start with a cake – it’s been awhile since I made one.

  3. First on list I would make WHIPPED Potatoes! You might be wondering WHY? Well it’s because there isn’t any lumpy issues with the potatoes!!! (As per the family)
Then it would be a loaf of bread to go with a sweet treat I received from a friend……….. Greaves Jams……….yummy!

  4. 4 years already? Go Mardi!! I’ll be celebrating my 4 year anniversary in a couple of months but what I really should celebrate are all the amazing bloggers and creatives blogging has introduced me to – like you! Congratulations on this milestone!

  5. Congratulations of four fabulous years of blogging and sharing your creativity and expertise with us Mardi. Sincere best wishes for many more interesting, informative and enticing years for Eat. Live. Travel. Write.

Honestly, if I won this new Kitchen Aid I think the first thing I would whip up would be a batch of thank you cookies…for you!

  6. 4 years- so impressive! I can only hope I am still blogging in 2 more years!

I love paula’s idea of thank you cookies! I made a great vegan chickpea cookie and black bean brownie swirl cake the other day that is begging to be made again!

  7. I would love to mix-up a delicious carrot cake, with maple cream icing for my sweet sister!

  8. Congrats on 4 years of blogging!
The first thing I’d probably make would be oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – get our relationship started with a classic. After that, I’d love to try my hand at homemade marshmallows!

  9. For the attachment, I’d love the Pasta Roller & Cutter. I’ve always wanted to make my own pasta and Kitchen Aid makes it look easy!

  10. Happy birthday! What a great giveaway! Of course, I’d whip up a bloggy birthday cake with my new mixer. Congratulations on such a successful blog!

  11. Congratulations! What a victory!

If I won a Kitchen Aid, I’d bake a sky-high lemon meringue pie.

  12. Congrats on your 4 year anniversary! If I won the Kitchen Aid, I’d use it to make healthier, but tastier recipes! I’ve just started making more alternatives to white cakes and scones and I know I could make them much more efficiently if I had that gorgeous mixer.

  13. For the attachment, I’d love the “Ice-Cream Maker”………… hoping it will be a HOT summer and having homemade ice cream would be fanatic.

Keep up the great JOB on the blog!!

  14. Congrats on your blog anniversary! If I were to win, I’d probably make those “best chocolate chip cookies” (you know, the ones that you put in the freezer before baking) that everyone keeps blogging about!

  15. For the attachment, I’d *definitely* go for the ice cream maker, hands down! I have a back issue of EatingWell with tons of recipes I would love to try!

  16. Tweeted! Thanks again for hosting this giveaway and here’s to many more anniversaries to come!

  17. …and in order to make that ice cream, I would choose the ice cream maker attachment!

  18. For the attachment, that’d be a tough call… So far I have it narrowed down to one of the pasta attachments, the ice cream maker, or the juicer!

  19. What a huge milestone Mardi! Congrats on making it to 4 years! You have definitely been a source of blogging inspiration for me over the past few years, and I am so happy that we had the opportunity to collaborate on so many projects!

And what a wonderful giveaway to celebrate! I’ve always wanted a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer… and the first thing I would whip up would be some homemade pasta dough.. this girl LOVES her carbs!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  20. A treat for my children! Maybe my daughter’s birthday cake if the timing s right 🙂

  21. I’m not eligible for the giveaway but wanted to wish you a happy blog birthday, Mardi! I’ve enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to many more delicious posts.

  22. If you don’t have one of these,
    you
    NEED
    one…

especially if you’re AD/D like me.
I’ll start mixing something and do dishes while I wait, cook something on the stove, etc etc etc.

This is why I’m famous for burnt food!

  23. I would want to try the ice cream maker because I’ve never made homemade ice cream before

  24. I would like the slicer attachment, it would make things in the kitchen so much more efficient!

  25. Hi Mardi, the first one I will whip up upon winning the Kitchen Aid mixer are Macarons from the recipe you thought us from the last Macaron Class at the Kitchen Studio last March. I will go to the next step now..

  26. I just tweeted the contest on my Twitter page. I would like the Majestic Yellow. Thank you.

  27. Congratulations on 4 fabulous years! I would whip up some Whipped Shortbread, to go with all the delish strawberries that are out right now.

  28. Happy blog birthday! I’ve been wanting to try out the ice cream maker attachment so I could make homemade ice creams!

  29. Wow, what a fabulous giveaway. I would totally whip up a creamy coconut and almond ice cream. yum! thanks!

  30. and further to my comment below, I would choose the ice cream maker attachment to make the ice cream of my dreams 🙂

  31. i would love to try the ice cream maker. Why? Because I have 5 kids and a husband who LOVE icecream, plus I enjoy it myself!

  32. If I won the kitchen aid mixer, I’d whip up a batch of pasta dough as I love making pasta from scratch.

And because I love making pasta, I’d choose a ravioli maker attachment, to take pasta making to the next level with some homemade butternut squash ravioli!

    and I tweeted this.

  33. As for an attachement….I’ve get the meat grinder! My boyfriend hunts a lot so we’d definitely use it!

  34. I would look forward to whipping up some fresh pasta for friends!
with the pasta maker attachment of course!

  35. Congrats!!

I would whip up some homemade pasta and roll it with the pasta roller attachment!

  36. ummm… i don’t want a KA stand mixer, I already have one so please don’t put this comment in the running :). All I wanted to say was HAPPY ANNIVERSARY my friend! Here’s to another four years!

  37. I’d choose the ice cream maker attachment to make my favourite ice cream flavours!

  38. I tweeted. Also I would use the pasta attachment. My husband loves making pasta but I know this would speed up the process. Thanks for the chance to win. Many congrats on your 4 year anniversary, continued success.

  39. I tweeted your contest and would loooove to be the lucky winner! I would make pavlova for the first time.

  40. I’d love to try the sausage stuffer. We BBQ a lot during the summer, so it would be pretty cool to be able to make our own sausages – then I would know for sure that the best ingredients are going into them!

  41. I am wavering between the ice cream maker and the slicer attachments; both would be welcome additions to my home. I think the first item I would whip up would be a family cake recipe because of the continuity of the generations eating a creation from a recipe passed over through the years.

  42. First thing to try: brioche…on a lazy Sunday, with lots of butter…ond no dirty hands

  43. Not entering the contest just wanted to say congrats. My blog also turns four this june. Thanks to your fabulous conference I’ve changed some of my direction in where I want my blog to go. Way to go Mardi! Hope to run into you at some event around TO

  44. I’ve got a KitchenAid already, so I’m not entering the contest, but I want to say congratulations on your blogoversary! You’ve been a bright light in French Fridays and I’ve so enjoyed getting to know you a bit through your posts and following all your cooking adventures.

  45. I’ve been wanting to try whipping chilled coconut milk fat into a whipped cream substitute for my dairy-allergic kid. That’s what I’d “whip up”. 🙂

  46. Pasta Roller and Cutter! I have a counter top type/manual maker but I’m not so good at guiding the dough with one hand so this attachment makes it look alot more simple. I might just use it more than twice a year!!!!

  47. The first thing I would whip up would be some fluffy meringue to go on my lemon Meringue pie….fresh and light for spring. Bon Appetit!

  48. Well, the first thing I would whip up in my new Kitchen Aid stand mixer is a birthday cake for your blog of course! Something festive and fun to celebrate an amazing four years of blogging! Congratulations!

  49. I visited the Kitchen Aid page and decided I would choose the ice cream maker attachment. Why? Well, every birthday cake needs some ice cream to go with it!

  50. Want to try the citrus juicer attachment cause I love juicing and being able to have one contraption that juices, mixes etc. would be ideal.

  51. I am excited about the pasta extruder. Fresh pasta is heavenly. I get a kick out of watching it extrude and the different styles of pasta and to have total control of how much pasta to make. The grandchildren would love being a part of this. A great bonding moment.

  52. I’d probably whip up an angel food cake or two with my new Kitchen Aid mixer!

  53. I would most definitely like the ice cream attachment for the new Kitchen Aid mixer!

  54. Congratulations on four years!

I’d try making angel food cake first – I’ve shied away from it because beating a dozen egg whites with a whisk wouldn’t be fun.

  55. I’d choose the pasta extruder, because I can do a lot of the other things without a mixer but there’s no way to make those types of pastas by hand.

  56. Congrats Mardi on 4 fantastic years of always interesting, always colorful, always a pleasure to read blogs.
The first thing I’d whip up if I had a KA mixer would be a batch of GF oatmeal, blueberry, banana pancakes longing for some for breakfast right now!

  57. I’d pick the fruit and vegetable strainer. So I could make easy applesauce. Yes please!

  58. I would love to use the KitchenAid pasta attachment, my kids love pasta this would be a great opportunity to make it with them 🙂

  59. I would get the ice cream maker attachment, because let’s face it – it’s ice cream. I’d make some crazy flavours!

  60. I visited the FB page and boy oh boy, tough decision. I’d go with the ice cream attachment so I could experiment with making halo halo, a Philipino style ice cream made with kidney beans. My kids would have a blast creating various ice creams as well.

  61. Sent out the tweet: I entered to win a Kitchen Aid stand mixer+ attachment from @eatlivtravwrite + you can too (Canada only) http://bit.ly/YHzjAw holiday Monday 2: 57 pm. Good luck to everyone. What a great prize! Happy 4th blogger b-day too.

  62. I’d get the pasta attachment… fresh homemade pasta all the time, what’s not to love!

  63. Strawberry Shortcake, using my Grandmother’s recipe …. and, of course, the whipped cream to go with the shortcake!

  64. I want to make homemade pizza dough!! would love this. My son and I have been dying to make homemade pizza dough and I think this would make it easier! What wouldn’t we make with this! Holy, my mind is spinning with yummy ideas!!

  72. I tweeted! (and I didn’t say why! but i love to make my own oat flour for the grain mill)

  73. I would love to win a Kitchen Aid mixer for my wife as she has wanted one for a long time but we are doing kitchen renos so haven’t made the purchase. The shreddar and food grinder attachments are super. I did not know the mixer could do all these things. The first thing my wife would do if she got a mixer is whip up a batch of cookies or muffins.

  74. The first thing I would do is make a gluten free vegan cherry pie. Who doesn’t like that with a good cup of coco? Then I’d watch twin peaks all over again.

  75. I would use the Fruit / Vegetable Strainer. This would be so much easier than using a juicer. Plus, the clean up would be a snap. Amazing. I didn’t even know this was an option. Very cool.

  76. I’d whip up my mom’s pastry and make a rhubarb pie to welcome spring (with whipped cream, of course!)

  77. I would make Compost Cookies – they are seriously the hardest cookies I’ve ever done and you definitely need a stand mixer to do them!

  78. First thing I would make is oatmeal raisin cookies! Just love those great tasty cookies especially when they’re homemade.

  79. I want a citrus juicer as attachment. Wanna make great tasty juices to quench my thirst!

  82. So exciting!! I would use this amazing tool in our Food Truck to make mix and make our house made Chorizo Sausages! My mind is racing with delicious recipes !! 🙂

  83. What a covetable contest, Mardi! I would love one of these candy-coloured mixers one day. The first thing I would whip up would be a pavlova with whipped cream, berries and herbs. Perfect for spring and easy for the Kitchenaid mixer!

  84. I actually want to try the ravioli maker feature, but there are so many possibilites!

  85. I would choose the Grain Mill attachment because I could imagine that homemade bread with freshly ground flour would taste unbelievable!

  86. I would make a couple of batches of cupcakes. My daughter loves to decorate them and they are always great to pack for lunches.

  87. Hard to know which to choose, they all look like wonderful options. I think I would choose the slicer/shredder attachment because of all the salads I make and vegetables I prepare.

  88. Think I would try the Pasta Roller & Cutter Set, we eat a lot of pasta and would love to make my own

  89. I would definitely whip up a delicious batch of cream cheese icing for carrot cake! Yum!

  99. The first thing I would whip-up is a Key Lime Pie!! Oh my, I’ve been craving one for so long!!

  100. The attachment I would pick is the Food Grinder. I’d use it to make my own ground chicken and turkey. I currently use a food processor to do it, but it is a pain to clean afterwards and turns the meat into more of a puree than ground up.

  101. The first thing I would try is pizza dough. The mixer would make the process less messy and so much easier.

  102. id like to get the ice cream maker attachment . it goes well with pie 🙂 thats why

  110. I would be exicted to try the SHREDDER!! Because I shred a lot of cheese around here and ANYTHING to make it easier would be awesome!

  111. I’d whip up some peanut butter cookies for my Mom — they’re her favourite!

  112. The Ice Cream Maker sure looks tempting, but I’d pick the Slicer/Shredder because I have trouble with my hands and this would be a great attachment for me!

They made very flavourful and healthy sausages, you can control what goes into the sausage. Who doesn’t like a sausage on the grill!

  120. Would love to make a unique batch of macarons with the Kitchen aid. Perhaps, one with mayan chocolate? or lychee soho macarons?

  121. In terms of kitchen aid attachments, the juicer you featured looks quite neat. It would certainly help increase my fruit intake. Otherwise, another practical item would be the meat attachments (grinder, sausage maker etc..). Who doesn’t love making their own meat items?!

  122. What great attachments! I would try out the ice cream maker to go with the birthday cakes!

  136. Congrats on 4 years of blogging! The first thing that I would whip up would be my family’s all time favorite cake — carrot cake with cream cheese icing! Yummy!

  137. I think the attachment that would best suit me is the slicer/shredder because right now all I have is a hand-held slicer/shredder and it is highly ineffective and time consuming to use. This attachment to the Kitchen-Aid Stand Mixer looks ideal for our busy family!

  138. I would love to try the Citrus Juicer because I love to have natural fruit juices.

  139. These new mixers look pretty cool and I love the colours! I’m still using a hand mixer. Not sure what I’d make first with one of them – I’d have to explore some new recipes online.

I’ve been envious of these mixers since they came out, super functional and looks very nice in a kitchen.

  145. ! The slicer/shredder would save me so much time. Nearly ever meal I spend time chopping and or shredding vegetables. My dishes might look a little more professional too 🙂

  152. Tweet the following message: “I entered to win a Kitchen Aid stand mixer+ attachment from @eatlivtravwrite + you can too (Canada only) http://bit.ly/YHzjAw” then come back to leave a comment on this post letting me know you did. Yes, did this too!

    Cheers

  159. Congratulations on your 4th blogging anniversary Mardi! You are definitely one of Canada’s most inspiring food bloggers, you have so many accomplishments to be proud of! Keep up the good work 🙂

What a generous giveaway to celebrate your anniversary! YOU should get the gift 🙂 I don’t own a KitchenAid stand mixer and I’ve been dreaming of getting one for many many years. If one should ever enter my kitchen, the first thing I’d do is a fresh batch of macarons to christen it!

  160. My attachment of choice would definitely be the pasta roller and cutter set. I love fresh pasta and I have a hand-cracked machine at home, but I have to admit that I’m most often too lazy to take it out and make them from scratch! I’d love to be able to speed up the process with the ingenious KitchenAid attachment.

  161. I voted for your red lentil soup a couple of weeks ago not realizing it was you! Congrats on the 4 years. I would bake a Lemon Pound Cake I love to make and I would like to try out the fettuccine attachment as my hubby is Italian Canadian and I know he would appreciate home made pasta.

The grain mill would be my choice of attachment.

  166. I’d love to try out the Citrus Juicer attachment, so i could have fresh orange juice with my breakfast.

  167. The first thing I’d whip up is probably a cheesecake (likely with blueberries or raspberries).

  168. I’d choose the Pasta Extruder attachment. I’ve never made fresh pasta before and this would make it much easier and also give me the motivation to give it a go. thanks!

  169. I would whip up some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies with my grandson as my little helper!

  170. I would pick the sausage stuffer attachment so I could make some different varieties like moose sausage.

  171. The first thing I would “whip up” would be a red velvet cake for my uncle’s birthday!

  172. I absolutely love the ravioli maker! I can just envision make scrumptious ravioli night for the family!

  173. I would get the Slicer/Shredder. I love to cut up veggies and the Carrot cake recipe looks good, too.

  174. I would pick the food grinder because then I would grind my own ground meat and know exactly what is in it.

  175. My mixer ‘bid the dust’. I would make a Lemon Poppyseed Chiffon Cake with a new mixer.

  176. i would choose the grain mill! i never knew this existed ..how awesome!
i would grind flax seeds for sure

  177. I would love to try the pasta roller and cutter set…homemade lasagna noodles are delicious and so much better than the dry stuff.

    • I’d love to try the ice-cream maker. I could make my own flavours without preservatives and with four boys you can be sure it would be a huge hit!

  178. I would make my friend’s awesome Ginger Cookies. They are fabulous, but the mixing is onerous and my arms ache by the time I’m done! This would make things sooo much simpler!

  179. There are so many things I would make! Whipped cream, bread, meringue, banana bread… I bake everyday so I would use this beautiful mixer everyday!

  180. The pasta attachment without a doubt! Although the meat grinder is very intriguing! Congratulations on 4 years of doing what you love! 🙂

  181. Retweeted the message! Thanks for the chance of owning this beautiful appliance!

  182. We love ground beef but have had some concerns about what stores mix it with. I would choose the meat grinder attachment and start grinding my own fresh beef and chicken.

  183. The attachments are so cool! I’d love to try the pasta extruder – I’ve never made fresh pasta before!

  184. Thanks for whipping up this great little contest! I just tweeted your link.
