A Kitchen Aid giveaway!

T’is the season for giving, right? Well in today’s post there’s a gift for everyone and a very special gift for one lucky reader 🙂

You all know how often I make macarons, right? And you must know by now how lost I would be without my Kitchen Aid stand mixer, right?  I’ve made so many macarons over the past few years and the Kitchen Aid makes it so easy. I’ve worked a lot on tweaking my go-to recipe, down to timing how long to whip the egg whites at different speeds on the mixer. But if you’re not using a stand mixer, it’s often hard to visualise what the egg whites look like at the various stages. Which is why I made a little video for you all today, showing exactly how they look. I hope you find it useful! I have a couple more videos (the macaronnage – folding the dry ingredients into the meringue – and my piping technique) to share with you soon too!

You can find my go-to macaron recipe in this post.

  1. I would give my hand at making some scones using a new Kitchenaid mixer (since I have never owned on in my entire life).

  2. Tweeted the message on my Twitter Account 🙂

… I would love to be able to come to one of your Macaroon classes, Mardi, if I wasn’t so far away. Maybe you will travel sometime up on the Bruce Peninsula and be able to stop by here someday !

Enjoy the day ! Thanks Kitchenaid Canada for supplying a Mixer for this draw.

  3. I would make the 7 minute whipped shortbread first. I have a hand mixer and that recipe is torture for me,haha!

  4. If I win,I would choose the Bay Leaf Green and I would be mixing a big bowl of angel food cake and some homemade bread dough for Christmas dinner.

  5. Beautiful macs, nice video and a beautiful mixer Mardi. I just might try to make a batch of macs with a new KA mixer! Only made them once and while they did turn out, I have a feeling it was just beginners luck 🙂

  6. I think I would finally make my own macarons from start to finish instead of just melting the chocolate and handing you the measuring spoons!

  7. Oh what will I make? Perhaps the new gluten free pizza dough recipe or some snickerdoodles. Yes snickerdoodles it is!

  8. I’d start learning how to bake a delicious cake, so that by the time my daughter turns 1 (in 6 months), I’d have it perfected. Maybe I’d even do a layer cake?!

  9. I tweeted my followers the “I entered to win a KA Stand Mixer…and you can too” comment

  10. I would attempt to whip up some chocolate macarons! It’s something I’ve wanted to try for years but is so intimidating!

  11. The first thing I’d make is croissant dough. We’ve been doing it by hand, so this would be a real treat.

  12. Hi Posted the retweet on my twitter account, @customersright. I would whip up cookies in my new mixer…. then brownies, then a cake, then….
Apparently my mixer should be white (my alternate colours were purple or blue).

  13. OMG i have been wanting one of these forever!! I would probably make one if my grandma’s old cookie recipe or bread!! Yummy 🙂

  14. I’ve been feeling the pressure to make macarons, so a stand mixer and your video would help! Also italian buttercream!

  15. A batch of macarons!! Definitely want to see how much of a difference there is between a new Kitchen Aid and my 25-yr old Oster stand mixer.
Followed possibly by delicious choux puffs to sandwich some smoked salmon mmmm

  16. I’d actually like to win this for my mom (she’s had the same old-school white-plastic Kitchen Aid since she got married 25 years ago – it’s held together by a few large elastic bands!). And she would probably whip up some Mennonite Peppermint Cookies first! ‘Tis the season!

  17. I would whip up some peppermint meringues sandwiched with chocolate; edible gifts for the holidays!

  18. First thing I’m gonna whip up is a large batch of scones….something the Mrs. can eat one handed due to the little one.

  19. I’m not sure what I would make, probably some kind of cookie. I’ve never owned a stand up mixer like this, but I certainly would love to!

  20. Oh, that’s an easy one. Homemade Egg nog. The egg whites would be glorious with the Kitchen Aid mixer!

  21. My colour is :

    COBALT BLUE

Life moves fast, and sometimes we forget to stop. Although it looks bold, Cobalt Blue remains humble, as it knows how to take advantage of the space around it. Whether you like clean lines or soft curves, this hue will make you appreciating your surroundings.

  22. I would love to try to make macarons. They are all the rage right now, but I’ve never made them before. I’ve never eaten one before either! But I’d love to give one a try!

  23. You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I have been obsessed with finding one of these for the most frugal price possible and FREE is the best price.

Ahem. To answer the question for the contest, I would say that the first thing I’d use this to make are ginger spice cookies, because I have a super craving for them right now.

  24. I’d whip up some Challah! I make Challah each week and knead the dough by hand-this would make it a heck of a lot easier…

  25. EMPIRE RED

‘Some like it hot, and this shade drips with desire. Drawn to those who are confident, Empire Red is not for the faint of heart, as its beauty harnesses the wandering eye. Placed on white, marble or stainless steel, this hue brings the passion.’
    Awesome!

  26. Not really a cook and not sure if this is possible but would like to make some banana bread with my Black Onyx KitchenAid stand mixer.

  27. The first thing I would whip up would probably be some of those macarons! Then I would probably buy the ice cream maker attachment and make ice cream 😛

  28. I literally had this conversation with my sweetie yesterday:

“When I get my dream kitchen with the island and the marble countertops and the gas stove and the dual ovens, the first thing I’m going to buy is a cherry-red Kitchen-Aid Stand mixer.”

    Yep.

Just did the test. Guess what colour I got?

    Empire Red.

  29. I would also try making macarons if I were the lucky winner.

Like you, I am macaron-obsessed. Here in Vancouver, we’re blessed with a couple of really great macaron places, and one of them is just around the corner from where I live.

I decided I had to learn to make them, so I took a workshop: https://cookingbylaptop.wordpress.com/2012/10/10/macaron-making-workshop-at-simply-french-cafe/

I’ve never made them since, because they are so fiddly and complicated, I decided it was easier for me to just go around the corner and buy them whenever I had a craving.

However, with a brand-new, empire red Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, I’d give ‘er a go. 🙂

  30. PS. I had a hand-held mixer until recently, but the beaters literally flew apart one day while I was making cookies. True story. Not trying to weight this contest towards those less-mixered in any way.

    PPS. I tweeted. @rebeccacoleman

  31. I would whip up a Königskuchen – that is my test to see if the maschine can hanble that dough.

The red Kitchen Aid is really cool for my mom.

  32. I’d love to give my hands a break when it comes to baking healthy treats for me and my 8 year old. A new Kitchen Aid mixer would surely do the trick. The first thing I would make would be Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins – they’re a staple in my house :))

  33. I got Pistachio Green as my colour. It seems I’d like to rewind time when people wore their Sunday Best.

  34. It would be my domestic dream come true to have a KitchenAid mixer! The first thing I would make is a strawberry chocolate cake. I can’t wait for the decadence!

  35. and the first thing i would make is easy…my wife’s birthday is coming up and she would get chocolate shortbread cookies…followed by pancakes (dont ask)

  36. I would whip up fluffy egg whites to finally overcome my fear of making soufflés… I love that I can make cheesy ones AND sweet ones. Desserts and cheese are my kryptonite! *fingers crossed* Hope I win!

  37. Pistachio is totally not my colour. While it is definitely a favourite of mine to use in desserts and at the top of my gelato flavour faves… I didn’t think the colour represents me! I’m more of a red! But that’s what the test says I am!

  38. I would try to whip up some macarons! I don’t have a stand mixer and have failed miserably at making macarons in the past! Yours look so beautiful! Oh, teach me, oh great one!!! xo

  39. I would whip up with gingerbread cookies! Just in time for the holidays and my daugther loves them!

  40. I would def whip up a sweet and saviory cookie, maybe a toffee bacon?! 😀

My color is White on White

  41. I would love to win this awesome stand mixer! The first thing I’d whip up is a batch of lemon squares. I just found a new recipe this year and they’re in high demand this holiday season!

  42. The first thing I would make would be a cranberry and pistachio nougat for the holidays – something my handheld mixer just cannot stand up to! And then a marzipan laced stollen -which i now make by hand.
The mixer in caviar would be so perfect on my counter (though I’ve a secret fetish for the cinnamon gloss one as well)

  43. I’ve always wanted to learn how to make macarons! If I won, to honour you I would make those!

  44. First thing i would whip up, I would try my hand at a topsy turvy cake and of course many other yummy recipes.

  45. Not sure what would be the first thing I would whip up with the Kitchen Aid stand mixer… maybe your macarons… never made them before…

My colour in the Kitcchen Aid quiz is Blue Willow, (Young at Heart) could also select pear or bay leaf… love all the colours of the rainbow.

  54. Green Apple is my favourite colour! I would LOVE to have one. All the colours are great, but this one is mine for sure. I would whip up a gorgeous chocolate mousse (my mother’s fabulous recipe) first with this machine.

  55. I would definitely have great use for A beautiful KitchenAid mixer…I do not care what colour..red, black or silver would be my choices though…
I would whip up some christmas whipped shortbread cookies…I am asked to make them every year and with a KitchenAid Mixer it would be that much easier to spread the christmas spirit by giving all of my friends and family my famous Shortbread Cookies…
    That would be sweet:)

  56. My Colour is Almond Cream…..my fav is Red…and no matter how many times I took the quiz..I ended up with ALMOND CREAM..KitchenAid is trying to tell me something..lol

  66. Home made marshmallows! I have no mixer and that definitely requires a stand mixer to do well… thanks for the giveaway !

  67. I have just vistied the Kitchenaid Colourology website. The colour choosen for me was White. Very nice, very simple.

  68. The quiz tells me my colour should be Buttercup but I am more inclined to go with Tangerine or Persimmon ~ those are my favourite colours and I would love to own a KitchenAid stand mixer, I might be able to make some real goodies for my family as my hand mixer is about to bite the dust!

    Marcia

  78. The first thing I would whip up in my Ice Blue (colour chosen for me) mixer would be the mixture for Creme Brulee..

  79. First thing I would whip up on my new Kitchen Aid would be some dough to make warm, gooey cinnamon buns!

  86. The first thing I would like to make is Melting Moments, a very old Christmas recipe that I have not been able to make with my old Kitchen Aid (26 years old and still going) because I am afraid it will quit on me.

  87. The Kitchen Aide mixer
    in delicious apple green
    Would bring me joy
    like you’ve never seen
    First would be crust
    for a tangy lemon pie
    With meringue touched in peaks
    so stiff and so high
    Now onto the shortbread
    Christmas pudding would be great
    One thing about baking

My colour is Boysenberry! I didn’t even know there was such a thing and I LOVE it!

  99. If I was fortunate enough to win a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, I would make two things…my mom’s homemade pizza crust that I have a hard time making, and pie crust for dessert. I would share the treats with my friends.

The website chose the empire red colour for me.

  100. I just made buttercream icing, well butter and Bailey’s cream icing tonight for the first time and it took forever and I thought how much nicer and easier it would have been with a Kitchenaid mixer! So that’s my answer! I would use the mixer for the first time to make buttercream icing! lol
    Thanks!

  101. Boysenberry was the colour chosen for me! It’s “growing” on me. I thought a green would be my colour!
    Thanks!

  103. I like the color Ice Blue… I would use the mixer to whip up a lot of eggs for my light and fluffy cake recipe.

  104. Home made pie, crust and all (what ever flavour the hubby wants) and Bread. I have been dreaming for one for a long time. I even have a space saved on my counter for when I get a Red one someday….. it would never go under the counter. I would use it too much! 😉

  105. I entered your cool contest! I took the quiz a few times just to see what it would come up with for me. It said my colors were Crystal Blue, Boysenberry, Pistachio green, white, and the Blue Willow. So it seemed to center around blue or green colors for me. Which is kind of suitable because my favorite color is blue. I LIKE the Cornflower Blue the best. Then the Bayleaf green, the Tangerine, the Majestic Yellow, the Persimmon, and the Pink. So it would be hard to pick only one color because they come in so many delicious colors! Yum! But if I had to pick only one color, it would be the Cornflower Blue one!

  106. With a decent mixer? I usually love to make pies, but I’d try my hand at whipping up some fancy breads for a change. 😉

  107. So I took the quiz, and came up with Metallic Chrome! Much to my surprise – since I probably would actually pick that color anyways! Thanks for the giveaway. 😉

  108. I have wanted one of these mixers all my life. I make 22 baking items each year at christmas to give as gifts and I know this baby would make the joy of baking more fun.

  109. The first thing I’d whip up would have to be some sort of cookies. Everyone loves cookies.

  110. The first thing I’d make would be cream puffs, just like my mom used to make, and I love the Empire Red.

  111. I would make Challah or Butterhorns…2 of my favorite breads! Unfortunately, I don’t have a phone to “twitter”, but I’ll do the colourology!

  113. I like the boysenberry colour and the first thing I would make would be……..vanilla cupcakes and a buttercream frosting!

  114. If I had this wonderful mixer, the first thing I would make would be whipped cream, so see if it does a better job than my old hand mixer. I get very tired of getting spatters of cream all over my kitchen and taking for ever to whip the cream into what I want.

  115. It’s funny that your video would be on macarons as my son has been bugging me to make these. And I’m not looking forward to all that whipping with my hand mixer.

  116. I would love a Kitchen-Aid mixer in any colour. I’ve taken the quiz a few times and get different colours like Buttercup, or Cobalt Blue, but I can’t decide between Metallic Chrome and Empire Red.

  117. I would whip up some whipped shortbread cookies. My neice and I attempted to make them yesterday with a hand mixer. Lets just say I have some sad shortbread and a dead hand mixer!

  118. Hi Mardi, I will whip up cupcakes. My colour is Metallic Chrome. Though I prefer the red. I have posted this giveaway to twitter. Also, I would like to attend your Macaron making classes on Dec 15th but when I call that number, the lady there doesn’t know any information. How do I sign up for it? I would appreciate more information please? Thank you, Pamela

  119. Oh, wow! Amazing giveaway.

I’d probably first whip up some shortbread for Christmas, and then try my hand at macarons. I’ve only tried them once and it was a complete fail!

  120. Hi my color was cobalt blue and i would whip up a batch of Imperial Cookies not only are they delicious but they are my parents favorite cookie. They get a tin every Christmas and they enjoy them with their tea on Christmas night after the big meal…

  121. The 1st thing I would whip up would be a Mexican Wedding Cake recipe that’s been in my recipe box for ages and I still haven’t tried it!

  122. EMPIRE RED

Some like it hot, and this shade drips with desire. Drawn to those who are confident, Empire Red is not for the faint of heart, as its beauty harnesses the wandering eye. Placed on white, marble or stainless steel, this hue brings the passion.

BUT I DON’T CARE I LOVE THE GREEN APPLE!!!

  123. I would whip up some shortbread first, then some macarons, as you taught me so well, then maybe the croissants and pain au chocolat from LaCuisine in Paris.

  124. With its warm undertones and subtle charm, Almond Cream is reminiscent of those summers spent baking with Grandma. Just like those days playing mother’s little helper, this shade makes a counter feel cozy and your space inviting.

Although I would really prefer the RED!!!

  125. If I won the kitchen Aid stand mixer I would whip up all the sweets along with your famous macarons. I would let you choose the color for me 😀

  126. What would I whip up? Never made macaroons, though I’ve eaten lots of them, and the video is excellent, so I’d have to give them a go.

  127. Hmm, difficult question but I’ve been yearning for home-made bread and this mixer would definitely make easy work of the kneading for me.

  128. I would make a chocolate birthday cake with Swiss meringue buttercreme for my son who is about to turn 7.

  129. The first thing I’d whip up if I win this Kitchen Aid mixer would be macaroons! I just tried them for the first time this year and I love them! But with school around I haven’t had a chance to try to make them at home yet! So I’m looking forward to trying this Christmas holidays.

  130. I also did the quiz on the Kitchen Aid website and I got “Green Apple” as my colour. But I actually prefer “Empire Red” and I got it for some of my earlier choices as I was doing the quiz.

  131. I would make the italian method of macarons! I finally don’t have to pour in one hand and beat in the other.

  132. The first thing I’ll whip up with this would be my first attempt at a molten lava cake! So excited to make them for family xmas.

  133. After “Whiping Up” a lemon and poppyseed loaf, I know my daughter will be “Whiping Up” many more tasty eats!! For I believe she just may “BORROW” it for her lifetime!!!

  134. My colour is Empire Red!
If I won the first thing I would whip up is my great-grandmother recipe for chocolate macarons

  135. 1. The first thing I would whip up are these macarons!
    2. My colour is pear!
    3. I tweeted “I entered to win a Kitchen Aid stand mixer from @eatlivtravwrite and you can too (Canada only) http://bit.ly/Swcqvj

Looks very vintage and I love the motto of this one “Think happy, live happy”

  137. Hi Mardi! I guess the first thing I would whip up using the KA mixer are macarons! I’ve been wanting to give it a try for so long! Plus with your tutorial, it should work like a charm! Happy Holidays! And have a nice trip! 🙂

  138. I have a lot of xmas parties coming up so I would make some red velvet cupcakes and gingerbread men!!!

  139. homemade biscuits
    4cups of flour
    2 tablespoons of baking powder
    2 teaspoons of salt
    1 1/2 cups of milk
mix cut and bake ten minutes

  140. my color was boysenberry! If i win this mixer, the first thing I will make: brown butter chocolate chip cookies with sea salt!

  141. I would whip up a huge batch of cookie dough, because cookies are the glue that holds Christmas together.

  142. A) If I were the luck winner of the magnificent KitchenAid Artisan mixer, the first thing I would make would be my mouthwatering Tiramisu dessert to serve on Christmas Eve.

    B) My colour of choice would be white on white’ and my colourology selection is Cobalt Blue.

  143. I took the colourology quiz and the colour that best suited my personality was Persimmon. (How appropriate that I love persimmons as much as I’d love to win the KITCHENAID ARTISAN MIXER!)

  144. The first thing I would do with a beautiful KA Stand Mixer would be macarons, just the way I learned from Mardi (the Bravetart method)….still trying but this would make it sooooo much easier.

  145. I would love this to whip up a baked spinach and cream cheese dish that I am wanting to make for the holidays!

  146. I would whip up some macarons! It’s a losing battle, but I am convinced that I shall someday prevail!

  147. i would love to try many different recipes with this if given the chance to win, likely a wonderful cake recipe and i like the red color please.thank you

  148. My colour: Persimmon. Love the colour, the fruit, and especially the stand master. First task would be to pull the rubber band off my grandmother’s dogeared recipe notebook to make a German Chocolate cake. Haven’t had that since I was like 10 years old. Thanks Mardi for piquing a wonderful food memory.

  149. If I had a Kitchen Aid stand mixer The first thing I would whip up would macarons of course! I am obsessed with them and my current hand mixer makes it very difficult to make them.

  150. I would make some wheat free cinnamon buns. Which I have never made before because I do not own the stellar, rockin’, incredible, excellent, fabulous Kitchen Aid mixer so I would have to research to find just the right recipe and then I would probably eat them all at once because I have no will power, hence why I studied nutrition.
