Tuesdays with Dorie: (a variation on) Cinnamon Raisin Bread from Baking with Dorie

This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is was Cinnamon Raisin Bread from Dorie Greenspan’s Baking with Dorie.   And yes, I’m just scooting in under the wire this wek – unexpected circumstances saw me BAKING this on the day before this post is due… In over 15 years baking and cooking along with Dorie groups, I’ve never posted late. BUt hey, I’m enjoying this delicious orange cranberry loaf for breakfast the day after this post so that’s a win!

Yep, you read that right – Orange and Cranberry for me! I DO love cinnamon raisin bread but not enough to make my own. I looked at what I had on hand (dried cranberries and orange extract (and curiously MIA vanilla extract) and zest) and figured that might be a fun version of this loaf. I was not wrong!

This is a lovely, easy recipe – it just needs you to be able to be around for the various resting/ proofing stages and work backwards so you are not taking this out of the oven at 9.30pm LOL. It’s not challenging as a recipe, but it does require some organisation and backward planning, that’s all. Oh and a few alarms! My loaf rose lovely and tall in the oven but it WAS heavy (I used a digital thermometer  (<<< affiliate link but this is the one I use and love!) to check it was at 200˚F rather than tap the crust to hear if it was hollow/ done.- I was worried it would be too dense but it was fine. Perhaps denser than a store-bought loaf but toasted beautifully and cut nicely too. Excellent toasted with butter!

  1. Wow 15 years, that is an impressive run. I love your version of cranberry orange bread, I would like a slice of that. I also used the thermometer method.

  2. What great tweaks! I contemplated using cranberries and I’m glad they worked well for you. Next time!

  3. I can relate to getting the post late and sneaking it in under the wire. Meeting the deadline is one thing, getting the bread done under pressure is another. This is a beautiful loaf. I’ll start planning for this one.

  4. Cranberry orange sounds really good…just might have to try that version out as well. Will defiantly be making this bread again…was easy and delicious!
