This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi is a French classic dessert – pot de crème. Dorie’s version is a riff on a version she’s tried in a neighbourhood café in France and she ups the game a bit by caramelizing the coffee beans which flavour the custard. This all sounded very nice, however, I didn’t have any coffee beans on hand the weekend I made this (I get my beans ground at the coffee shop at the end of our street, just so for our particular machine) so instead I brewed a strong espresso and added that to the custard in lieu of some of the milk for a regular coffee pot de crème.
I made a tiny quantity of this for two small pot de crème (in tea cups!) and when they were baked up, the coffee flavour wasn’t quite strong enough so for a post-run snack on Sunday, I poured a little espresso over the top and added some whipped cream. SO. GOOD. Not pretty but tasty!

You ran out of coffee beans?! I like coffee on coffee sounds great.
I didn’t run out of coffee beans, like I said in the post, I never have whole beans at home as I get them ground specifically for our machine at our local coffee shop.
The espresso as a topping is BRILLIANT.
