Tuesdays with Dorie (Baking Chez Moi): Double Chocolate Marble Cake

Dorie Greenspan Double Chocolate Marble Loaf on eatlivetravelwrite.comThis week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi was a Double Chocolate Marble Cake which sounds a lot more complicated than it really was to make! This batter is similar to a pound cake, but at the last minute, you divide the batter in half and add melted white chocolate to one half and melted dark chocolate to the other, then kind of swirl the batters together.

Top of Dorie Greenspan Double Chocolate Marble Loaf on eatlivetravelwrite.comMy loaf had a spectacular crack in the top which made it hard to tell if it was cooked or not – even after 90 minutes in the oven (yup it’s a HEAVY loaf!), it still looked a little uncooked in that part. I probably ended up overbaking this slightly because of this as you can see when you slice it…

I actually found this (the marbling effect) quite challenging to do – the batter is pretty thick. I think next time I will add the batter in smaller amounts to the loaf tin and swirl each layer as opposed to waiting until the end. No matter, it still tasted lovely and chocolatey (without being overly sweet) and looked pretty!

I cooked mine for more than 90 min! I just kept adding time until I could get the toothpick out clean. Very dense loaf, but well liked by my tasters!

I love the bullseye in your cake! I also found this cake quite dry – not my kind of cake but I can see the appeal.

Dense but delicious! I’m sure staff enjoyed it.

Looks utterly delicious! I found the batter to be quite heavy and difficult to budge because of the melted chocolate in it too. Strategic dollops helped me out.
