This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi was a Double Chocolate Marble Cake which sounds a lot more complicated than it really was to make! This batter is similar to a pound cake, but at the last minute, you divide the batter in half and add melted white chocolate to one half and melted dark chocolate to the other, then kind of swirl the batters together.
My loaf had a spectacular crack in the top which made it hard to tell if it was cooked or not – even after 90 minutes in the oven (yup it’s a HEAVY loaf!), it still looked a little uncooked in that part. I probably ended up overbaking this slightly because of this as you can see when you slice it…
The crumb is a little bit tight (dry) but hey – at least I got some “marbling” right? I actually found this (the marbling effect) quite challenging to do – the batter is pretty thick. I think next time I will add the batter in smaller amounts to the loaf tin and swirl each layer as opposed to waiting until the end. No matter, it still tasted lovely and chocolatey (without being overly sweet) and looked pretty!
