I made just a half batch of this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Dorie’s Cookies because it’s beginning to look a lot like, well, you know…. in my kitchen these days and the last thing we need is cookies sitting around to tempt us 😉 These went straight to school but I did taste a 1/2 one (that’s how my staffroom rolls, “I’ll just have a half” they say, they they always go back for more later…).
In fact I messed these up in a couple of ways so I’m going to have to make them again. Despite the fact that I, too, am a huge fan of five spice (Dorie puts this in everything, even cookies), my brain must have been on autopilot because I added ALLspice instead. Um…. Ok. No harm done because, well, cranberries and pumpkin seeds and allspice sounds like the holidays, right?
I used pumpkin seeds because I was bringing them to school (Dorie’s recipe calls for peanuts) and fresh cranberries. Despite handling the dough very carefully, the cranberries bled and turned most of the cookies pink which I didn’t like at all. I think next time I might use dried cranberries for a similar effect (maybe chopped finely and soaked in a little orange juice or something to soften them up) because I did love the flavours, just not the look. Oh, and I should try them with the five spice at some point too!

Glad you liked the flavours. I was not a fan, but then I am a sweet tooth. The green and red colours sure are pretty.
I love the changes you made. They look very festive!
I think your cookies look great. They are so festive and look great for the Christmas holiday. You are too hard on yourself. I am not a fan of Chinese Five Spice so these were not a hit in my house. I like your ‘substitution’ of allspice, I might have liked that better.
