I’ve spent the weekend working through the copyedited version of my manuscript which wasn’t my top choice of activity for the Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada but I was thankful that at least I had the time to do the work (right?). I planned my time in blocks of 2 hours, because at this stage the document is enough to make your eyes cross in your head if you look at it too long, which left enough time for a few quick baking projects (because one needs a little bit of something to look forward to after 8 hours’ work on a long weekend day, right?) which my neighbours also enjoyed.
This, the Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi for this week, was one of those quick baking projects. It’s called a Moka Dupont, named for the lady who came up with the recipe (although apparently it’s very common in French households) with the “Moka” coming from the coffee in the recipe.
It’s actually a crazy easy dessert and one I’ll remember when I’m short on prep time – it’s a good one to make in advance and bring out at dessert time to “ooohs” and “aaahs”! Basically, you soak Petit Beurre cookies in coffee and glue them together with chocolate buttercream. That’s it! I couldn’t find Petits Beurre in my neighbourhood so I used plain tea biscuits which were tiny. Suited me because I was planning to minify the dish anyway. I used the weight of the cookies in the recipe and quartered it to make one tiny cake (I made 1/2 of the buttercream recipe because it was hard enough to halve an egg, let alone quarter it…).
This came together very quickly indeed (I’ll be using the quick buttercream recipe again, that’s for sure!) and sat in the fridge to set a little before I cut it in quarters to make four tiny petit-four sized treats.
Three of these went to my neighbours and one was a writer’s treat late on Sunday night. Perfection.

Glad you were able to eat a nice treat after hours of book prep. Good luck with the final touches. We really enjoyed this one and it is growing on me over time.
I’m definitely making this again!
Glad you got to have a cook’s treat. This was ok, just not really my thing. You have amazing discipline to work on a holiday weekend. All the best with the book!
Writing a cookbook = working all the time! Not the deadlines I’d have chosen but there you go!
The minis are very cute. I made this for Thanksgiving and everyone enjoyed it.
Perfect for Thanksgiving!
i liked these as mini individual cakes. glad you got to enjoy a writer’s treat– you deserve it!
They are the CUTEST as individual cakes!
Well I’ve finally re-visited my book wishlist – Baking Chez Moi is on it’s way 🙂
Clicked on the Petit Beurre cookies link to see what would be similar Downunder – OMG what can’t you buy on Amazon!!!! Looking forward to the arrival of Amazon in Australia in the very near future – can’t wait. Might be able to do my grocery shopping on there considering you can’t shop on-line with the two big supermarkets in Mount Isa.
I’m always amazed at how Amazon isn’t in Australia!!
A well-deserving “ooohs” and “aaahs” dessert. They look so rich and tempting.
They’re so good!
I agree…you needed something to look forward to with all that tedious work! I love the small bite size portions. A little went a long way! 🙂
Definitely a little bit went a long way!
