It was a glorious week of weather in Lyon last week and finally after a few long, long days baking, cooking and shooting images for my book, we headed outside ostensibly to take some “lifestyle photos” for the book (and since I already have gigabytes upon gigabytes of beautiful market and French lifestyle images, I’m sure we’ll have plenty of choice!). It was lovely to get out and see the blue skies… and signs of spring!
(we’re so far behind Lyon in terms of weather right now… no blossoms to be found just yet!)
We spent a good while poking around a couple of markets – it’s my favourite pasttime when I travel. On the cusp of a new season, markets are always so interesting too – seeing what’s slowly coming back into season (and comparing to home where it still feels all a bit like root vegetables a go-go!). Here’s a glimpse of those early spring markets from last week…
All the greens…
Bright carrots and sandy ones…
Still a few root veggies hanging on…
As well as vegetables still attached to their roots…
(I’ve never seen endives sold like this before!)
There were also pretty pears…
Along with a little bit of spring you can decorate your house with…
What about where you are – what’s new on your market stands?
Happy (French) Friday!
Lovely photos. I am so hungry now. I hope the book shoot went well.
Thanks, it went really well!
Looks absolutely wonderful. How nice to stroll around and look at the fresh vegetables.
It really did feel like spring was on the way!
What gorgeous images… and memories of french markets. Here as autumn is now in full swing, my licaal farmers markets have less of the bright colours of strawberries and bananas, but the freshness of apples & pears… but as I admire your photos with an envy that i have for all things french, i am aware that my local markets are becoming much more like the french… local seasonal produce… its a globalisation trend I’m happy with.
Thanks so much 🙂 I definitely think the concept of “farmers markets” has come a long way in the past few years and the amount of people shopping there has too. I still think there’s nothing quite like a French market though!
