Tuesdays with Dorie (Baking Chez Moi): Sunday in Paris chocolate cake

Dorie Greenspan Sunday in Paris chocolate cake from Baking Chez Moi on eatlivetravelwrite.comThis week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi is an exercise in understatement.  It’s inspired by a gorgeous pâtisserie/ chocolatier/ tea room in Paris called Un Dimanche à Paris (I’ve actually been there – make sure I go each time I am in Paris (you can see a little peek in this post or this one where I met the lovely Jill Colonna from Mad about Macarons/ Teatime in Paris for the first time) in the Saint Germain area where it’s baked in a long slim loaf tin. Though it’s “just” a simple chocolate cake, at Un Dimanche, it looks “more supermodel than grand-mère” according to Dorie. Her version includes peanut butter which I didn’t include because it was going to places where people have allergies but I’d like to try that and top with toasted peanuts next time.

With a scant 30g of chocolate and 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder in the batter, it’s not overly chocolatey – even the glaze has less than 100g of chocolate and just a few tablespoons of cream – hence it being an exercise in understatement. This was amongst a selection of baked goods I sent along to a bake-off at Neil’s curling club and he came home with leftovers (!!! what IS wrong with these people? Actually I know – there was a massive amount of sweets and I guess people didn’t realise what a supermodel they had in their midst. Oh well..). I brought said leftovers to school where they were gobbled up eagerly by people who “don’t even like chocolate cake much”. So there.

This was really easy and I love the size of it – I used an 81/2 by 4-inch loaf tin – this may just become my “go to” chocolate cake.
