Jamie Oliver wants everyone, everywhere to join him in a global Food Revolution.
What is the Food Revolution?
Over the past 5 years, Food Revolution Day in May has been an annual event world-wide celebrating and campaigning for better food education. This year the focus shifts to every day – a year-round Food Revolution!
This year Food Revolution Day falls on Friday May 20th and Jamie will be encouraging people everywhere to join him cooking from scratch. Jamie’s chosen ten delicious, nutritionally balanced recipes, each covering a different skill and technique that can give anyone the confidence to cook good, real, healthy meals for themselves and their families, for now and the future.
Jamie’s Food Revolution is right at the heart of all the work Jamie and the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation do engaging and inspiring people of all ages to learn about food and how to cook it.
Why do we need a Revolution?
We’re in the middle of a global health crisis. Right now an astounding 41 million children under five are overweight, while another 159 million are too undernourished to grow properly. We’re failing both our children and future generations by not empowering them with the right food and skills they need to grow healthily and happily.
How can you get involved?
Meaningful change is built from the ground up. The Food Revolution aims to educate and inspire people and communities to make better food choices and lobby governments and businesses to make positive, lasting change. Get your local school to download the teaching materials and get cooking on May 20th and beyond. Organise an offline event – cook at home with your kids, host a foodie event in your community or challenge your workmates to a cook-off. How I’m getting involved in Food Revolution Day 2016: Getting hands on with parents and kids in the kitchen!
This year Sobeys has once again offered their support (they have been a proud supporter of my Food Revolution Day events since the very beginning –in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015!) for my parent-child cooking class taking place at the fabulous St Lawrence Market Kitchen. On Friday May 20th 2016, from 5.30 – 8pm ($5 per child $10 per adult, open to the public, registration required) fellow Ambassador Mary Catherine Anderson and I will show participants how to prepare a number of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution recipes then we’ll sit down to enjoy them together.
Participants will also receive a Jamie Oliver Cookbook courtesy of our book sponsor Harper Collins Canada!
and the kids will be making Jamie’s “oaty fruity cereal” which they will take home in jars supplied by Bernardin.
