This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is a combination of two of my favourite things: hot chocolate and panna cotta. Dorie, being the very talented lady she is, has created a recipe which tastes exactly like hot chocolate but instead, it’s a smooth, cold dessert. It does play tricks with your mind (especially when you are making the mixture – it even LOOKS like hot chocolate as you are pouring it into the little ramekins)!
I made two tiny panna cotta (yes, the minifying continues!) which was the perfect amount for this two person household with a host of other desserts and dessert experiments cluttering up the fridge 😉 Mine set for around 6 hours in the fridge and I’m pleased to say they had a lovely consistency – more like a mousse that the gelatinous consistency one sometimes associated with panna cotta. That said, I’m not sure I would have been able to remove these from the ramekins to make a free-standing version, so I guess Ill just have to make them again, right? They came together very easily and quickly so they are a perfect “make ahead” dessert for a dinner party. Mine were *slightly* grainy which I think might have been because I let my melted chocolate cool slightly too long before pouring over the hot milk/ cream. In any case, I will be making these again….
