This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe is a combination of two of my favourite things: hot chocolate and panna cotta. Dorie, being the very talented lady she is, has created a recipe which tastes exactly like hot chocolate but instead, it’s a smooth, cold dessert. It does play tricks with your mind (especially when you are making the mixture – it even LOOKS like hot chocolate as you are pouring it into the little ramekins)!
I made two tiny panna cotta (yes, the minifying continues!) which was the perfect amount for this two person household with a host of other desserts and dessert experiments cluttering up the fridge 😉 Mine set for around 6 hours in the fridge and I’m pleased to say they had a lovely consistency – more like a mousse that the gelatinous consistency one sometimes associated with panna cotta. That said, I’m not sure I would have been able to remove these from the ramekins to make a free-standing version, so I guess Ill just have to make them again, right? They came together very easily and quickly so they are a perfect “make ahead” dessert for a dinner party. Mine were *slightly* grainy which I think might have been because I let my melted chocolate cool slightly too long before pouring over the hot milk/ cream. In any case, I will be making these again….

I made these for Valentine’s Day for the two of us. They were divine ! Did you halve the receipe or just put it in several ramekins?
I made 1/3 of the recipe to make 2 ramekins.
Great, thanks!
They did taste just like good hot chocolate should. Delicious!
N’est-ce pas? 😉
Glad you enjoyed them. They weren’t for me, but I am in the definite minority here.
I can see the texture might be an issue for some. Loved the flavour though!
Hot chocolate panna cotta. Ah well, the name says it all, really. Lovely.
Right? these are SO good!
I love the way they look in your pots, the presentation is beautiful!
I was surprised by how much they tasted and smelled like hot chocolate, delicious!
Totally, right? It was JUST like hot chocolate!
I agree…these were really good! Yours look so pretty!
I didn’t have any problems with grainy texture with these, I think I got lucky. We also thought these were more mousse- like. My hubby really enjoyed them and thankfully ate the leftovers. I also need to start minifying:)
Glad you enjoyed. This one was unique, for sure.
what a cute little pot– looks like just the right size for such a rich treat!
Mini-fied !! Yes, lovely. Nothing like those little shavings on top to make an already lovely dessert look just spectacular 🙂
Always!
Ooh, love the minifying! So cute! Also love the jar and the grated chocolate — c’est tres bon!
Yes the bowls come from France 🙂
I finally posted my catch up for this one. I loved it, too. As much as I love a traditional chocolate pudding, it mellows cocoa. This panna cotta really allowed the cocoa flavour to shine.
