This week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe from Baking Chez Moi is a lightened up version of strawberry shortcakes and it’s perfect for the summer and taking advantage of lovely local strawberries. This “Franco-American style” strawberry shortcake uses a ladyfinger batter to create the “cakes” meaning it’s much lighter than a regular shortcake (so, does that mean you can eat more?).
Of course, I halved the recipe which yielded 8 ladyfinger disks (two of them were my “practice piping” versions and, hence, a little smaller – like pancakes, I find piped desserts, yes, even macarons, need a couple of goes around to get the shape right).
We sandwiched them with whipped cream and topped them with some strawberries, simply tossed in sugar and left for a few hours to create delicious juices…
A perfect summer dessert – and so very easy! Loved that it’s so light – it’s very decadent tasting but actually doesn’t make you feel like you are eating a rich dessert. MOST satisfying!

We loved these shortcakes. I have to practice the piping after seeing your discs.
Piping does require some practice for sure!
I loved these. Your shortcakes look so lovely.
I wound up with two trays of ladyfingers so I just made more strawberries and whipped cream! Can’t get enough of these!
And I wish I had used some fresh strawberries! Lovely shortcakes, Mardi!
Your shortcakes look delicious. We loved how light and decadent they were as well.
Yes they tasted so decadent but actually were perfectly light!
They look great!
I agree – they tasted so nice and light! And yummy. So yummy!
Beautifully done, Mardi! I made my first two cakes with fresh strawberries, then roasted a batch for the rest of the them. Loved the roasted strawberries!
Must try!
Very pretty. They were delicious with both fresh and roasted berries.
Need to try to roasted berries next time!
These were really nice and easy, and make a great light dessert.
I love that this was so light, too. Can’t wait to try gluten free ladyfingers next time so I can have the whole dessert and not just some berries. 😉
I think it should be fairly easy to make gluten free?
I like your idea, eat more cake. We really enjoyed these lighter versions, though I used a lot of whipped cream:)
I am not much of a fan of whipped cream but it definitely was perfect for sandwiching these!
These were divine: perfect for summer on the terrace, and just scrumptious with fresh local strawberries.
Such a great summer dessert!
I love your comparison to pancakes! I have so many things that need a bit of practice if I haven’t made them recently (and in the case of macarons, even if I have made them recently!).
I missed this recipe but now your post is making me wish I had gone for it then or during the rewind week while strawberries are still in season. What a luscious looking dessert, I want some!
Sadly, whenever I pipe anything, the whole batch becomes practice piping for me 🙂 I just haven’t developed a piping hand yet…
I am glad to see you are still minifying 🙂
