It is 10.30pm on Thursday, May 7th 2015. It’s 4 years and 7 months since I started cooking from and posting weekly about Dorie Greenspan’s Around my French Table for French Fridays with Dorie. And I would be remiss to not acknowledge that I am a little emotional as I write this post. It’s the second last recipe I will post about from this book. It’s also the final fish/ seafood post from the book. The last time I will roll my eyes and sigh that it’s yet ANOTHER fish recipe and wonder why on earth we didn’t vote for more of these at the beginning (oh, wait…..). And while I have complained about all the fish (and Dorie has lamented that she didn’t manage to turn me into a fish lover), I will miss this. I will miss the learning. I will miss the camaraderie of trying some newfangled fishy dish and sharing the results with my fellow Doristas every Friday. There will be more time for reminiscing over the next few weeks so, in the meantime, I leave you with this:
Seafood pot-au-feu. A lovely, light spring-like veggie and seafood stew – with salmon, scallops and mussels. Neil told me he would be very happy if I would make it again and it was Cleo-approved too. It was actually really easy to make (even, ewwww – removing the mussels from their shells wasn’t so bad!) so I would probably make this for seafood-loving company but not just for Neil. I halved the recipe and it still made a LOT!

This was good – I am with Neil on this one. It is weird that this project is coming to a close – it has lasted almost as long as high school!

This was, in fact, one of my FAVOURITE of the fish dishes. I will miss them immensely. I’ve spoken to Dorie, and suggested she periodically send Mardi a personal “fish dish suggestion”, just to keep Cleo and I happy. 😉
What I liked most about this dish was its light nature, allowing the ingredients to shine through: from all the fish (glorious quality from our local fishmonger) through to the snow peas. The broth allowed each element to have its own separate flavor profile, and not become one “mass” stew — if that makes any sense.
Am sorry I will be out of town for next weekend’s finale!

Both of these pot au feu recipes were incredibly easy, which is again making me wonder why I didn’t discover them earlier.
I will also miss this. It doesn’t seem real yet that we’re at the end.

Can you believe how much we’ve accomplished?
We had a lovely time in Paris & ended up staying at Hotel de Lutece on Ile St. Louis. We highly recommend it if you have anyone asking where to stay. We walked all over the place, had perfect weather & enjoyed outdoor cafes.

I’m in denial, Mardi, and am not thinking about this being the next-to-the-last Post and not hearing about your distaste for fish anymore nor waiting with anticipation to see what Diane made in the crockpot this week or whether Cher changed up the recipe just a bit or alot. No, I am not thinking of any of those things. Nor does it help when my daughter called the morning (my first of many “You’re a Great Mother” calls) to ask me if I was sad that our FFWD recipes were almost completed. Nope, it’s not on my mind whatsoever. Loved your Seafood Pot-au-Feu. You’ve done a bang-up job on the fish recipes the past several weeks and, really, your Posts have been quite funny. On to Food Revolution Day and our final recipe.

up all the recipes I missed, hopefully will be posting them soon. It’s been quite an accomplishment
all around, and a great journey.

Yes often the recipe quantities make a lot more than it says…
I’m going to miss knowing that you aren’t happy about another fish recipe (not that I’m out to torture you). It’s too bad you weren’t swayed to the other side. So many of the AMFT recipes were wonderful!
Well at least I know how to make them now!
