Yes, it’s Cookbook Book Club time again – my once a month “cooking from the same cookbook” meal with Jan from Family Bites and Jenn from Chocolate Shavings. We’ve already had dinner with Marcella, dinner with Nigella, dinner with Ottolenghi, dinner with Maria Speck, and last month cooked from Naomi Duguid’s book, Burma.
This month, as a nod to Food Revolution Day (which I took part in with both of my boys’ cooking clubs as well as outside school too) we decided to cook an all-Jamie Oliver meal! As a bonus, I registered this meal as one of the meals making up Canada’s biggest potluck hosted by Sobeys, meaning that each time we tweeted using the #FRD2014 and #PotluckChallenge hashtags, Sobeys donated $1 to the Cooking Toward Independence Project – a new initiative run by the Children’s Aid Foundation that will improve the lives of young people leaving the child welfare system across Canada when they turn 18 by funding cooking skills workshops and creating access to healthy food.
Jan was in charge of the appetizers and brought this gorgeous platter of fresh veggies as well as Jamie’s tzatziki (from Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals) and minted pea and yoghurt dips (from Jamie’s Dinners):
For the main course, I decided on Jamie’s Garden Glut soup and the official recipe of Food Revolution Day – Rainbow Wraps.
And for the pièce de résistance, Jenn brought this stunning tiramisù:
And since I had been at the St Lawrence Market the day before testing out their ovens with a batch of macarons in preparation for my upcoming classes, I couldn’t resist serving macarons as well!
That would be a chocolate ganache flavoured with Chambord on the inside. So. Good.
Wow – what a potluck (food bloggers do them well!). A great end to Food Revolution week and a reminder that sometimes you need to take 4 hours out of your day to get together with friends, eat good food, drink rosé and catch up in person. And plan next month’s Cookbook Book Club gathering (hint: it’s going to be SWEET!)…
When’s the last time you took the time to share a great potluck with friends?

Disclosure: I have been compensated for promoting the #PotluckChallenge. If you read this blog regularly you’ll know Food Revolution Day and getting kids cooking are both causes I believe very strongly in and so I’m happy to promote people getting back to cooking and eating real food (especially with kids) with this campaign.
Canadian giveaway: Win a set of GreenPan non-stick frying pans endorsed by Chef Mark McEwan. Closes Monday May 26th 2014 6pm EST. Details here.
Lovely photos Mardi. I am reliving the dinner just by looking at them, and craving another macaron!
And I’m craving the tiramisu!
Okay #bummed I was out of town for the weekend and missed this. At least there were four macarons awaiting my return…best use of my bottle of Chambord, I’d say! 😉
Yes this was a good one!
Mmm… this was one of my favourite cookbook book club gatherings yet! The meal, and the conversation, was completely satisfying.
So much fun 🙂
