Take the Pledge to Snack Healthy in 2014 with Taste of Nature (and a giveaway!)

Taste of Nature bars on eatlivetravelwrite.comI’ve been a fan of Taste of Nature bars for a while now but, until just recently when I was invited to “Take the Pledge to Snack Healthy“, I actually didn’t know much about the history of the bars or just how good for you they are – just that they taste great! Taste of Nature was founded on a basic principle: to be the best Canadian snack food brand by making simple, great tasting products that give back to the world more than they take. The result is a lineup of “Snack Bars with Nothing to Hide”!

Taste of Nature are organic fruit and nut bars that combine the world’s best organic ingredients, including whole nuts and seeds that you can see, taste and pronounce (yay Real Food!). They even come in a clear wrapper so “what you see is what you eat.” Made locally (for me) in Markham, Ontario, Taste of Nature snack bars are now sold and enjoyed in 35 countries.  And check out their credentials:

  • 100% certified organic
  • Non-GMO Project Verified
  • certified Gluten Free*
  • certified Low GI, Vegan and Kosher

* The Taste of Nature Niagara Apple Country bar is made with gluten-free oats, but regulations do not allow the company to make a gluten-free claim. These are the only Taste of Nature bars that Celiacs may want to enjoy with caution.

Wow – that’s great news and it makes them an excellent choice for a lot of people who can’t eat so many other snack bars because of food allergies. I love that they are full of so much good stuff without the stuff you don’t want, like additives, artificial flavours and fillers.  The bars are a source of energy, fibre, protein, essential fatty acids, omega 3 fatty acids, and vitamins, minerals and trace elements that occur naturally in organic foods. But best of all (and, for me, most importantly), the bars taste great,  Real tastes really good.  But the company’s “nothing to hide” approach doesn’t stop at the bars. Taste of Nature believes it’s possible to provide healthy food while leaving a zero-carbon footprint, and the company works every day to make that a reality – you can read more about Taste of Nature’s environmentally-friendly practices on their website.

The Taste of Nature flavour line-up includes California Almond Valley, Brazilian Nut Fiesta, Quebec Cranberry Carnival, Niagara Apple Country, Argentina Peanut Plains, Nova Scotia Blueberry Fields, , Canadian Maple Forest, Caribbean Ginger Island, Himalayan Goji Summit, Mediterranean Pistachio Passion, Persian Pomegranate, Garden, Polynesian Coconut Breeze, and Louisiana Pecan Parade. A whole range of delicious ways to help you pledge to snack healthier this year! Taste of Nature bars are available in grocery, drug and natural health food stores.

Whilst I can’t actually “click” to take the pledge (I’m not on Facebook), I’m all about making small changes that are really do-able this year and for me, buying these bars instead of others to snack on is a no-brainer. Neil and I have been snacking on these bars for the past 10 days or do – we’ve each had one a day – and the bars are so tasty that it’s a very easy way to make a healthier choice either for breakfast (Neil’s preferred snacking time) or right when you get home from work and dinner is a few hours away (my preferred time to snack on them).  I have found that unlike other bars or other choices of snack, these keep me satisfied while I prepare dinner and I’m less likely to snack on less-healthier foods.   For Neil, combined with a fruit and a yoghurt, it’s a great, fast breakfast.

The Taste of Nature Pledge to Snack Healthy

Taste of Nature created the Pledge to Snack Healthy after a recent survey they conducted found that almost half of respondents (45%) want to snack better and felt that “adding one healthy [tasty] snack to my diet every day” was something they could do in order to be healthier.  Nearly three quarters (68%) of respondents said that taste is crucial to satisfying a snack craving, making Taste of Nature the perfect solution. The Taste of Nature Pledge to Snack Healthy is designed to inspire Canadians to snack better.

Canadians are encouraged Take the Pledge by visiting the Taste of Nature’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/tasteofnature, and promise to switch to at least one healthy snack a day. Everyone who signs the online pledge until February 28th 2014 will be entered into a daily draw for a yoga mat and Taste of Nature bars (value $55).

But wait, there’s more!

  1. Well as Mardi said, I’ve been nibbling these for a while now simply BECAUSE they taste good. (And, as a bonus, aren’t teeth-crushingly hard!)

The lack of added sugars and low sodium, for me, make it a better alternative. The *small thing* for me in my diet this year, to reduce both. (Not that it’s terribly high, considering how little packaged food Mardi and I eat. But it is the snacking that would hit…)

  7. I think I’ve actually tried them all… I’m a big fan. My favourite is Quebec Cranberry Festival, because I love a little bit of tart cranberry goodness in my granola bars.
