I am a lucky, lucky girl. First of all, when I realised that I would be out of school this week at a training session, I asked my colleague Michelle if she would be comfortable taking care of Les Petits Chefs just for one day. Generously, she agreed and then I thought it might be fun to bring in a guest chef to work with the boys but I wanted it to be someone who knew the boys, the school and how Les Petits Chefs works… enter Adell Shneer. This would be Adell’s SIXTH visit (she’s showed the boys how to decorate cookies for Hallowe’en, made cheese blintzes, helped our with our Food Revolution Day event, made Pad Thai and soup and pasta and each time, we’ve all had so much fun!). Since Adell last visited, she’s launched a cookie business – Art to Eat Cookies. And boy are they spectacular….
Adell is all about not just beautiful cookies she’s also passionate about colour theory… As she says, “When I started making and designing cookies, I started with the basics. Not the basics of baking but the basics of colour theory. I have always been drawn to vibrant colour. I knew what I liked, what stirred my soul and excited my eyes, but didn’t really know why. So I set out on a quest, to learn more about colour.” Adell read what she calls “the ultimate colour theory book The Art of Colour, written by Johannes Itten“. You can read Adell’s notes about colour theory here.
We thought it might be interesting for the boys to have a quick colour theory lesson too so we settled on “decorating amazing cookies with a bit of art colour theory thrown in for good measure.” I am really bummed I missed this class because as you will see from the pictures below, it looks like a blast!
And behold some of their masterpieces…
And how did I get these fabulous photos when I wasn’t there? Well another colleague who is pretty nifty with a camera, Tim, offered very generously to come and take “a few” pictures. When I went to collect them, there were well over 100 gorgeous photos – it was hard to narrow them down to just a few for this post.
I heard via text and email that the class was fabulous, then the next day when I arrived back at school I was greeted with these gorgeous cookies – a care package from Adell…
Talk about lucky – two amazing colleagues (Michelle and Tim) who take my place as both photographer and crowd control supervision, an amazing guest chef (Adell) and a mum who offered to help out when she realised I was not going to be there (Tara). Thank you all. The boys were so happy and appreciative of the fact that I organised something for them even though I was not going to be there. One of the best Petits Chefs sessions I never went to!

I LOVE these cookies!!!
Aren’t they awesome?
They boys were amazing! Their concentration and attention to detail was phenomenal. I loved the way each of them created their own cookie masterpieces.
When they were all done, we walked around so they could view each other’s works, like a real art class.
Thanks for sharing your students, they are awesome!
Oh Adell, you are just the best. Thank you.
Always been impressed with Adell’s eye for colour matching and her artistic cookie designs. That she’s been to your lab kitchen six times now…also very impressive.
Adell is a true inspiration!
Oh my goodness – those cookies look amazing! They really do look like mini-works of art! This is something I would love to do with my ‘future’ children! veyr inspirational!
I am always so inspired by Adell and was glad to see the boys were too!
What a coup! To have Adelle there with your students – unforgettable… and SUCH fun!

Very pretty and colorful cookies!
Aren’t they great.
They did an amazing job!
Thanks Helene!
Some of the LPCs should simply sign one or two cookies and somebody in an art gallery would soon put a red dot (“sold”) on them.
Their stuff is pretty cool, for sure!
Lovely – Adell and the boys did a great job on these cookies.
I know right? I am totally not even needed!
Their young minds come up with the most creative ways to see things.
These cookies are simply gorgeous!
