Food Share’s Recipe for Change 2013 (Toronto)

Recipe for Change 2013 Momofuku Pork Buns

Recipe for Change 2013, which took place on Thursday February 28th in the historic North Building of the St Lawrence Market, was a special evening: a full meal composed of tasting plates from 30 of Toronto’s top chefs and beverage accompaniments (30 VQA wines and nine local beers) and a wonderful opportunity to support FoodShare’s innovative and multi-faceted work in schools toward Food Literacy for all students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Food Share Toronto

FoodShare Toronto is Canada’s largest community food security organization. Founded in 1985, FoodShare works with communities to improve access to healthy, affordable, sustainably-produced food through community-based programs and policy recommendations, with a vision of Good Healthy Food for All. FoodShare’s programs, which reach over 155,000 children and adults per month in Toronto, include fresh produce sourcing and sales, childhood nutrition, hands-on food education from JK-Grade 12, a healthy school cafeteria model, gardening, composting, cooking, and urban agriculture.

Here’s a video outlining FoodShare’s multifaceted work in schools and childhood nutrition:

On Thursday I was fortunate enough to check out the event for the first time. What I saw was a lot of people – chefs, volunteers and attendees – passionate about good food and excited to be making a difference in such a delicious manner!

Here’s a glimpse of some of those hard-working, passionate souls (and their amazing food) whose work on Thursday will help make so much difference in so many children’s lives.

    • Thanks Andrea, event photography is always a challenge, especially when you have food and wine and a phone and a camera and you’re in a busy, bustling event. As you can see, not many of my food pics made it in this post!
