Announcing Canada’s Inaugural National Cupcake Day for SPCAs and Humane Societies

National Cupcake Day

Hi bakers and animal lovers! Did you know – the first-ever National Cupcake Day™ is set for Monday, February 25th2013, and you’re all invited to participate! Bake cupcakes, host a cupcake party, share cupcakes with family, friends and colleagues, and collect donations all in support of the SPCAs and Humane Societies across Canada.

Initially launched by the RSPCA in Australia, New South Wales – National Cupcake Day™ has been brought to Canada as a gift to the Ontario SPCA and the British Columbia SPCA.  Sponsored by Petsecure Pet Insurance, Reynolds® and BMO Bank of Montreal, National Cupcake Day™ is designed to help raise much needed funds for all fuzzy friends, big and small, that have been abused, abandoned or in need of help.

You’re encouraged to register online then bake cupcakes and host a National Cupcake Day™ party on February 25th, with all proceeds going to support the Ontario SPCA and its communities. Your cupcakes will help shelters across Canada give a surrendered cat or dog a new forever home, rescue a neglected or abused animal and give them a second chance at a new life, and provide emergency surgery injured animals.

About Ontario SPCA and Humane Society:

Protecting animals since 1873, Ontario SPCA is Ontario’s Animal Welfare organization. A registered charity comprised of over 50 Communities. Ontario SPCA is mandated under the Ontario SPCA Act to enforce animal welfare legislation and the Act provides Ontario SPCA Agents and Inspectors with police powers to do so. Ontario SPCA provides leadership in animal welfare innovations including introducing high-volume spay/neuter services to Ontario and opening the Provincial Education and Animal Centre.

Our Cleo was a Humane Society cat until we adopted her in the summer of 2001.  We can’t imagine life without her now.

Apparently, though, the Humane Society does need to be made aware that Cleo’s mum and dad simply can’t remember where the cat food is kept… 😉

There are so many animals in need of help across the country at SPCAs and Humane Societies, I couldn’t NOT participate in such a sweet way to raise funds.

I won’t be hosting a cupcake sale, though I will be baking cupcakes, which I will post here on Monday February 25th.  I’ll be taking them into my colleagues and encouraging them to donate to the cause in exchange for a little bit of Monday morning sweetness!  And you? Well you’ll be able to virtually “purchase” a cupcake by making a donation (much better for the waistline too, right?).

If you’d like to visit my “online bakery”, we’re open for business already! Just head to my personal page on the National Cupcake Day website, where you will be able to donate to the cause.

  1. Donation made to help you get started! A great cause.

Glad it’s going to the SPCA, and not The Humane Society of Toronto. After all their issues the last couple of years re mis-management, animal cruelty (!) and significant diversion of funds to questionable areas…not clear that THS is yet fully on the right track.
