The Pavilion (Sydney, Australia)

On my way home from Laos, I had a day in Sydney to recuperate and prepare for the final 20 hours in the air.

Mum and Dad took me to The Pavilion Restaurant in the Domain for a delightful lunch. We sat outside and it was hot and sunny. Winter in Australia….

Very quiet for a Sunday but made for a pleasant meal. Live jazz played inside the restaurant, just loud enough for us sitting on the patio. The menu was simple but more than adequate for lunch.

We chose:

Sourdough bread with balsamic and olive oil with a side of olives $4.50

(this was taken to show Dad how the “macro” setting on my camera works)

Dad: Beef and mushroom pot pie with rosemary frites $25

Mum: Beer battered fish and chips, homemade tartate sauce $25

Me: Salt and pepper squid, rocket (arugula) and cashew salad with aoili $18

Dad: Eton mess, crushed meringue, vanilla cream, strawberries $12

Up close!

Mum and me: Six assorted truffles

Thanks for a great time in Sydney and all the yummy food mum and dad.

  1. Yes, well… it's quite disconcerting to realise that everything, yes everything that is served up in any restaurant to Mardi is going to be photographed…"don't touch it, 'til I get a shot"…

  2. Oh trust me, you get used to it Geoff!

By the end of our fortnight in Laos, even the other couple tended to just shrug and wordlessly slide their plates towards Mardi before tucking in…

  3. Mardi, I’m happy you take the time to photograph these artful presentations. I could jump right into the screen and take a bite of everything. Amazing food and amazing photos to show it to all of us.
    Merci!
