… well not *with* Jennie and Bridget themselves (but wouldn’t that would be fabulous?), rather with their recipes…
We’re a day and a half away from the end of the longest term of the year. We’re all a bit “done” but I wanted to keep the Petits Chefs busy until the very end and what better way than to bake up some holiday goodness in the form of cookies? I chose a simple sugar cookie from Bridget’s site and the crispy chewy gingersnap cookies that Jennie posted recently – I thought they were excellent “base” recipes for the boys to learn how to make, and since neither of them requires chilling, I thought they were perfect to make in under an hour 🙂
We divided into 2 groups today to make sure we got all the cookies made and baked in our 60 minutes… Both of the cookies are essentially “one bowl” which I love – and it makes them so much more attractive to bake with kids (less mess!).
We measured…
And worked our stirring muscles…
For the gingersnap cookies, Jennie suggests using a cookie scoop to ensure uniform-sized cookies but the boys did ok with eyeballing their cookies…
Over at the sugar cookie station, we started rolling out the dough to cut the cookies out…
but quickly realised that we were a little short on time – the dough needed a little more working and we knew we wouldn’t have the time to get the dough “just so” and roll, then cut the cookies and get then baked in time so…
We rolled and pressed 🙂 And I think they look pretty good:
Meanwhile, over on the gingersnap station, the boys were rolling the cookie balls in sugar…
And the cookies came out perfectly…
A lil on the rustic side but *I* think they are perfect 🙂 We packaged them up and the boys were instructed to give them to their mums… I’m not sure how many of those ended up with their mums though…
Thanks Jennie and Bridget for accompanying my students at least in spirit this week. I am thrilled to have been able to show the boys how easy cookies they might otherwise buy or prepare from a packet are to make from scratch. In one bowl. In under an hour. Win-win situation I’d say!

…and thanks, LPC, for the late-night snack after returning home from a meeting. Much appreciated.
Enjoy your holiday break, boys — and here’s to helping mum & dad with some of that cooking over the holidays! 😉
I am pretty sure that a few boys baked cookies over the vacations 🙂
Win-win situation indeed! LPC did a great job with Jennifer and Bridget’s recipes. If any of them are stuck for a gift for their mom’s this Christmas, either (or both) of these lady’s books are fabulous 🙂
It’s been a wonderful semester with you and LPC! Hope you all enjoy your break. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!
Thanks Paula – we love reading your comments every week!

And a happy Christmas to all the LPCs and thanks, Mardi, for some very interesting LPCs’ posts this year.
Oh my goodness…these pictures and this post just MADE my day!!!
Well thank YOU Bridget!
You know how much I love your petits chefs… And, this post just made me smile! What a perfect choice of recipes from two of my favorite bloggers.
I’ve been feeling rather overwhelmed and exhausted from blogging lately, but posts like this renew my inspiration and interest. Thank you! 🙂
Aw thanks Jen – and hey – even with NO energy you can make these cookies with Maddie – so so easy!
