Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer in Yellow

Four years ago today, I hit “publish” on my very first blog post.

Who knew what a huge part of my life eat. live. travel. write. would become? Certainly I was not expecting to still be blogging up a storm four years later!

I didn’t want to write one of those retrospective blog birthday posts (you know, most commented post, most views etc…) and I’m crazy busy right now recovering from FBC2013 and gearing up for Food Revolution Day  so instead, I’ll keep this one short and sweet.  This far down the track, though, it’s time to spend my summer taking a long hard look at this blog, really moving towards focussing and improving my writing and photos over the year to come. My long term gift to you, dear readers…

For now, to mark the occasion, I have a little something for my Canadian readers… It’s pretty…

And, fitting since my very first post was called “A few of my favourite things” it just happens to be one of my most favourite things in the kitchen…

I would make a key line pie for my Dad as Father’s Day is just around the corner. Congratulations on your 4th Anniversary. Lovely Meeting you at #FBC2013

  2. Krista May 15, 2013 at 07:02 #

I’d make so many things – right now I usually just sigh wistfully when I see that a recipe includes instructions to use a stand mixer. Would probably start with a cake – it’s been awhile since I made one.

  3. Krista May 15, 2013 at 07:02 #

    Tweet posted! :)

  4. Christine N May 15, 2013 at 07:33 #

First on list I would make WHIPPED Potatoes! You might be wondering WHY? Well it’s because there isn’t any lumpy issues with the potatoes!!! (As per the family)
Then it would be a loaf of bread to go with a sweet treat I received from a friend……….. Greaves Jams……….yummy!

  5. Lindsey May 15, 2013 at 07:47 #

Honestly, if I won this new Kitchen Aid I think the first thing I would whip up would be a batch of thank you cookies…for you!

Congrats on 4 years of blogging!
The first thing I’d probably make would be oatmeal chocolate chip cookies – get our relationship started with a classic. After that, I’d love to try my hand at homemade marshmallows!

  13. Marisa May 15, 2013 at 08:54 #

For the attachment, I’d love the Pasta Roller & Cutter. I’ve always wanted to make my own pasta and Kitchen Aid makes it look easy!

Congrats on your 4 year anniversary! If I won the Kitchen Aid, I’d use it to make healthier, but tastier recipes! I’ve just started making more alternatives to white cakes and scones and I know I could make them much more efficiently if I had that gorgeous mixer.

  18. Christine N May 15, 2013 at 09:39 #

For the attachment, I’d love the “Ice-Cream Maker”………… hoping it will be a HOT summer and having homemade ice cream would be fanatic.

Keep up the great JOB on the blog!!

  19. Vincci May 15, 2013 at 09:45 #

Congrats on your blog anniversary! If I were to win, I’d probably make those “best chocolate chip cookies” (you know, the ones that you put in the freezer before baking) that everyone keeps blogging about!

  20. Vincci May 15, 2013 at 09:47 #

For the attachment, I’d *definitely* go for the ice cream maker, hands down! I have a back issue of EatingWell with tons of recipes I would love to try!

    Congrats on the blogaversary!

  26. Meghan A May 15, 2013 at 10:27 #

Cookies would have to come first!

  27. Meghan A May 15, 2013 at 10:29 #

For the attachment, that’d be a tough call… So far I have it narrowed down to one of the pasta attachments, the ice cream maker, or the juicer!

  28. Wendy Knudson May 15, 2013 at 10:59 #

I would “whip up” bread dough, it’s so hard to do by hand.

If you don’t have one of these,

I’ll start mixing something and do dishes while I wait, cook something on the stove, etc etc etc.

  56. Sarah May 15, 2013 at 20:59 #

I think I’d make cookies and I know they’d have to be chocolate!

  57. Sarah May 15, 2013 at 21:00 #

If I won the kitchen aid mixer, I’d whip up a batch of pasta dough as I love making pasta from scratch.

    and I tweeted this.

  72. Michelle T May 16, 2013 at 10:19 #

I’d make macs!! I’ve tried once and I’d love to try again!

  80. Tintin May 16, 2013 at 12:48 #

Seeing that summer is soon to arrive, I’d like to whip up ice cream first!

  81. Melissa@EyesBigger May 16, 2013 at 12:48 #

ummm… i don’t want a KA stand mixer, I already have one so please don’t put this comment in the running :). All I wanted to say was HAPPY ANNIVERSARY my friend! Here’s to another four years!

  82. Tintin May 16, 2013 at 12:49 #

Cool! Congrats, Mardi! First thing I’d whip up… probably chocolate chip cookies. My family loves them. :)

  85. Christy May 16, 2013 at 12:56 #

Congratulations! Good luck to all your Canadian readers. :)

  86. Jeanine - the Baking Beauties May 16, 2013 at 12:56 #

I would definitely pick a grain mill – with all the gluten-free baking I do, I’d love to be able to save some $$ by grinding some of my own flours.

  87. Jeanine - the Baking Beauties May 16, 2013 at 12:58 #

I tweeted on twitter! Tweet! :)

  88. Lisa May 16, 2013 at 13:05 #

I tweeted. Also I would use the pasta attachment. My husband loves making pasta but I know this would speed up the process. Thanks for the chance to win. Many congrats on your 4 year anniversary, continued success.

  91. Stephanie - kitchen frolic May 16, 2013 at 13:14 #

I’d love to try the sausage stuffer. We BBQ a lot during the summer, so it would be pretty cool to be able to make our own sausages – then I would know for sure that the best ingredients are going into them!

Ice cream, pasta roller, or sausage stuffer! I can’t decide. I am so hungry.

  95. Linda Luong May 16, 2013 at 14:30 #

I am wavering between the ice cream maker and the slicer attachments; both would be welcome additions to my home. I think the first item I would whip up would be a family cake recipe because of the continuity of the generations eating a creation from a recipe passed over through the years.

  96. Jen @ My Kitchen Addiction May 16, 2013 at 15:13 #

Of course, count me out of the giveaway since I am not Canadian… But, Happy 4 years of blogging!! :)

  97. Stephi May 16, 2013 at 17:02 #

First thing to try: brioche…on a lazy Sunday, with lots of butter…ond no dirty hands

  101. Alexis May 17, 2013 at 14:16 #

I’ve been wanting to try whipping chilled coconut milk fat into a whipped cream substitute for my dairy-allergic kid. That’s what I’d “whip up”. :)

  107. Sandra Latcham May 17, 2013 at 15:51 #

Pasta Roller and Cutter! I have a counter top type/manual maker but I’m not so good at guiding the dough with one hand so this attachment makes it look alot more simple. I might just use it more than twice a year!!!!

    I tweeted! thank-you

  109. Sandra Latcham May 17, 2013 at 15:54 #

  111. Graham May 17, 2013 at 16:13 #

  119. Emilia May 17, 2013 at 19:56 #

I would make fresh pasta. It’s so good

  120. Emilia May 17, 2013 at 20:01 #

I am excited about the pasta extruder. Fresh pasta is heavenly. I get a kick out of watching it extrude and the different styles of pasta and to have total control of how much pasta to make. The grandchildren would love being a part of this. A great bonding moment.

    Congratulations on four years!

I’d try making angel food cake first – I’ve shied away from it because beating a dozen egg whites with a whisk wouldn’t be fun.

  133. ikkinlala May 18, 2013 at 00:54 #

I’d choose the pasta extruder, because I can do a lot of the other things without a mixer but there’s no way to make those types of pastas by hand.

  134. fiona smith May 18, 2013 at 09:09 #

Congrats Mardi on 4 fantastic years of always interesting, always colorful, always a pleasure to read blogs.
The first thing I’d whip up if I had a KA mixer would be a batch of GF oatmeal, blueberry, banana pancakes longing for some for breakfast right now!

I would love to win a Kitchen Aid mixer for my wife as she has wanted one for a long time but we are doing kitchen renos so haven’t made the purchase. The shreddar and food grinder attachments are super. I did not know the mixer could do all these things. The first thing my wife would do if she got a mixer is whip up a batch of cookies or muffins.

  174. Lidia Le Francois May 21, 2013 at 19:05 #

  175. Lidia Le Francois May 21, 2013 at 19:07 #

I would use the Fruit / Vegetable Strainer. This would be so much easier than using a juicer. Plus, the clean up would be a snap. Amazing. I didn’t even know this was an option. Very cool.

Congratulations on your 4th blogging anniversary Mardi! You are definitely one of Canada’s most inspiring food bloggers, you have so many accomplishments to be proud of! Keep up the good work :)

What a generous giveaway to celebrate your anniversary! YOU should get the gift :) I don’t own a KitchenAid stand mixer and I’ve been dreaming of getting one for many many years. If one should ever enter my kitchen, the first thing I’d do is a fresh batch of macarons to christen it!
