It’s nearly that day again – Jour du Macaron or Macaron Day – March 20th 2013!
You might remember how much fun I had last March touring the majority of the participating bakeries for the first edition of Macaron Day Toronto (and getting a huge sugar rush!) – well this year, I’ll be doing it all over again!
The Jour du Macaron originated in France (the creation of pastry chef Pierre Hermé) and is celebrated every March 20th. Now, similar events take place all over the world including in Toronto, thanks to patisserie owner Michel Firanski of La Bamboche, who organized Toronto’s first city-wide Macaron Day in 2012. Last year’s event saw over 18 patisseries and pastry shops participating in the event – handing out free macarons and donating 25% of all macaron sales for the day to the Red Door Family Shelter. Last year’s event succeeded beyond expectations, raising nearly $6500 for the Red Door Shelter. This year’s goal is to raise $8000!
In addition to being a Macaron Day Toronto Ambassador this year (my job is to spread the sweet word about macarons and Mac Day…), I’ll also be hosting a special Macaron Day macaron-making class at The Kitchen Studio from 6-8.30pm on March 20th. Come, join me – learn how to make these little puffs of perfection yourselves! For details of this special Macaron Day class, and other classes around Toronto, click here.
** Canadian readers – have you entered my Nigella Lawson “Nigellissima” book giveaway yet? Closes on Wednesday March 6th at 6pm EST.
