It’s Winterlicious time again in Toronto – a two-week celebration of dining and local culture in some of the city’s best restaurants presented by American Express and produced by the City of Toronto. Winterlicious is a chance to check out some of those restaurants on your “must try” list and the 2013 restaurant list is the largest to date, with over 190 restaurants offering prix fixe menus ($15/$20/$25 per person for lunch and $25/$35/$45 per person for dinner). As well as all the prix fixe goodness, don’t forget to check out the Culinary Events – there are a lot of interesting foodie adventures to choose from exploring different cuisines – French, Scottish, Italian, Japanese and cocktails, just to name a few!
Where to start with so many choices? The City of Toronto created this useful map feature where you can choose a specific or favourite neighbourhood and find the closest prix fixe restaurants and culinary events, then click for location details and menu links. You can even create a list using the Sort List tool to create a list of favourites, then click the Share button to send your top picks to friends to help better plan group meals. Winterlicious meals with a group of friends are great because it means you can taste more of the items on the menu!
For this year’s festival, I’m very excited to announce that I’ve been selected by Amex Canada to be a “roving reporter” – As a proud supporter of Canada’s dining industry, American Express wants to highlight Toronto’s diverse collection of restaurants while also bringing unique dining experiences to life and there are lots of ways you can participate! When you’re out and about enjoying your Winterlicious meal, snap a few photos and upload them to Instagram using the #DinewithAmex hashtag, then visit the Dine with Amex site to enter your Instagram photo’s URL for a chance to win 1 of 10 $100 American Express Gift Cards. You may enter a maximum of three times between January 25 and February 7 2013.
Neil and I will be attending a dinner at Pangaea on Friday, February 1 and you can follow our dining experience via my tweets and Instagram photos. I am glad I have a while before the dinner because I am having a hard time choosing from the awesome menu.
Winterlicious is a great chance to sample the offerings of some of the more expensive and harder to book restaurants around town. Think of ‘licious as a tasting menu experience – one that will make you want more and head back there during regular service season.
