Fun post! You're absolutely right in that I would've named a cheesesteak as the 'must-eat' food when visiting Philadelphia. But now I realize we'd be missing out on so much. The Italian hoagie and tomato pie are my hands-down favorites of this list, although I wouldn't turn down a single bite of the others. Thanks for sharing your edible tour!

Great post and lots of good food that I remember from my younger days growing up in Lancaster County. We would go to Philly quite often, and you brought back some good memories.

You mentioned the success of the once quality bakery Tastykake, and their products were very good. But I think there was a recipe change about 20 years ago, and the butterscotch krimpets are not like they used to be.

We moved to South Jersey when I was 16 and the first thing we found out about was the hot pretzels with mustard. The second was Hoagie day at school. We didn't order because we didn't know what they were, but we soon found out. Thanks for the playback.

Say Philadelphia and food in the same sentence in the UK and you'll probably get cream cheese!! You might get bread sticks too if it's the packed lunch variety. It's good though!
